A group of Microsoft workers is demanding the company cancel a contract supplying the U.S. Army with HoloLens headsets that they say would turn real-world battlefields into a video game. Microsoft's head-mounted HoloLens displays use augmented reality, which means viewers can see virtual imagery superimposed over the scenery in front of them. A letter signed by more than 50 Microsoft employees Friday and circulated on an internal messaging board said the technology could help soldiers spot — and kill — adversaries on the battlefield....

"We did not sign up to develop weapons, and we demand a say in how our work is used," the letter says.

Just one question: Will they next throw themselves on the ground and threaten to hold their breath until they turn blue?

I’d be concerned for a different reason. I could see HoloLens being used for pure experimentation, but anything that’s going to be deployed on a battlefield needs to be engineered to mil-spec. Is this in any contract with Microsoft?

So, they would rather see more dead Americans on the battlefield.

There was a time when true Americans were proud to contribute to keeping our warriors safe and sound. From this we can see they value the lives of enemies over the lives of our soldiers. This technology will be used either by us or our enemies, or both.

They would leave our troops without this advantage.

That seems pretty un-american to me.

Being retired military with several combat tours behind me I can honestly say they can kiss my ass and get the hell out of my country.

They have no respect for how hard we work to keep our fellow American soldiers alive in the environment of battle. They do not seem to think keeping Americans alive is a priority.

Fuck them.

What is the reliability of the product anyhow?

For all we know it has huge backdoors ready to be revealed by a disgruntled Microsoft employee or employees.

50 employees out of 135,000 signed the letter.

Fire the 50, problem solved.

yes.
“Microsoft said in a statement Friday that it is committed to working with the military, including the Army under the HoloLens contract.”

Well in this case, the employees on the product line should be copacetic with it. If others aren’t — that’s Microsoft’s fish to fry.

It’s a good thing that no defense companies and the Pentagon use Microsoft Office running on Windows PCs off Windows Servers in any way. Imagine the sleepless nights from that.

A letter signed by more than 50 Microsoft employees...
... who would be pleased as punch if the same technology were bought over-the-counter by every adversary of the United States. May the bastards wind up protesting in their unemployment lines. Thanks blueplum.

I guess they want it to be a fair fight.

Clearly, they have never been in a fight.

Fire them and take away any security clearance they got from the U.S. Govt. Make it permanent but hold these bastards to a Non-Disclosure Agreement re military and/or government technology secrets.

Then keep an eye on them for a couple of years. If one sells us out, try them for treason and then shoot them.

They want to be traitors, ok. We have the right to treat them as traitors.

In fact, I hope that someone in the food-chain of Microsoft leaks their names and addresses. The door swings both ways, aholes and I hope it hits you hard on the way out of the job or on your way to jail.

Forgot to say that the Government knows who they are anyway. Their names are on the list of “contractors” who are assigned to a specific project, esp. those that need security clearances. They are toast.

Just went through my 5th security review and the govt investigator did a good job of asking the right questions. These clowns are in deep career-ending doo-doo.

Making a list, checking it twice. By-by!

The only fair fight is when me and mine walk away unharmed and those who oppose us are no more.

Nothing else is acceptable. There is no second place in a firefight.
