Democratic Gov. John Carney has signed legislation adding Delaware to a group of states pledging to give their Electoral College presidential votes to the winner of the national popular vote, regardless of the voters' will in those states.

Carney's approval Thursday makes Delaware the 13th Democratic-leaning state to join the popular-vote compact...

Maybe they don’t want to show their hand? Saving it for the “So sad-too bad.” reveal.

R’s in Cali and NY have a reason to vote now. Only good consequence of this.

That’s a betrayal of the populace of the state.

It destroys the idea of a republic of states.

However, watch it backfire on them and force them to give the votes to Trump.

That would be too delicious.

Absolutely unconstitutional, but the conventional wisdom at the moment is that it’s moot because they don’t have a path to 270. Someone did an analysis a few weeks ago and said this thing is going to top out around 206.
...
Do you see a problem if the governor States after the election that the EVs were awarded Dem due to popular vote even if Dems lose 2020? If precedent is set and allowed to stand, then we have a dead country walking.

the winner of the national popular vote

What is the "national popular vote"?

Who counts the votes? Who certifies it? How is it audited in case of a dispute? To whom would a dispute be addressed?

Supposing this system is constitutional - what if NJ, Washington State, and Maryland keep Trump off their ballots, as they have promised to do? What if California does? Donald Trump got 4,483,000 votes in California in 2016.

What authority would be in charge of defining and validating a "national popular vote"? The Washington Post? MSNBC?

The whole PURPOSE of State Legislatures controlling the choice of the President was to PREVENT a national authority (i.e., the sitting President and Congress) from controlling the process.

Yep... like all things Leftie, it’ll last till a GOPer wins the popular vote but loses the EC. Then these same states will demand the laws be repealed, before the Electors meet. As with all things Left, it’s a cynical LIE!

The Constitution outlines our system, they’re just trying to do an end-around it. Unconstitutional!

Then the Dems will develop amnesia. Their calls to toss the electoral college will be forgotten.

Here’s a thought: what if all the high-density blue areas were nothing but rich white people? Because only uber-rich white people can afford to live there & pay astronomical taxes and housing costs?

Wait, aren’t those area pretty much turning into that now?

I absolutely see multiple problems with this scheme, but by its own terms this “compact” doesn’t kick in unless participating states amount to 270 or more.

The thought I have behind this is that then the candidates only go to the most populated areas - say the top 10 cities. gets 90% D turnout, and VIOLA! A 100% D victory sweep.

But, maybe I’m just too damn cynical in my old-middle age.

Good question, and he most likely did win the popular vote when the illegal count is removed. . .

Read the article below, it is not that lengthy and includes proof that illegals voted in the millions AND changed the Electoral College count. The “real” popular vote count will prove Trump likely did receive more votes than hillary.

https://www.investors.com/politics/editorials/did-votes-by-noncitizens-cost-trump-the-2016-popular-vote-sure-looks-that-way/ (Investor’s Business Daily)

“Did Votes By Noncitizens Cost Trump The 2016 Popular Vote? Sure Looks That Way”
From a Harvard study: “Now comes a new study by Just Facts, a libertarian/conservative think tank, that used data from a large Harvard/You.Gov study that every two years samples tens of thousands of voters, including some who admit they are noncitizens and thus can’t vote legally. . . The findings are eye-opening. In 2008, as many as 5.7 million noncitizens voted in the election. In 2012, as many as 3.6 million voted, the study said.”

And of course, https://www.justfactsdaily.com/substantial-numbers-of-non-citizens-vote-illegally-in-u-s-elections/ also provides details and a level of proof that is ignored by partisan hacks, like the MSM, democrats and never-trumpers.

Just Facts Daily provides scholarly facts and analysis of the vote that prove Trump and others were correct that Illegals voted in the millions:
“The Electoral Studies Paper
In 2014, the academic journal Electoral Studies published a paper by three scholars who analyzed the results of a large survey conducted by a group at Harvard University. This study also made use of polling data from YouGov and voter registration and turnout data from Catalist, a firm that equips “progressive organizations” with data to help them “persuade and mobilize” people.
In this 2008 survey of 32,800 respondents, 339 identified themselves as non-citizens, and 38 of these non-citizens checked a box that said “I definitely voted” in the 2008 general election or were recorded in the Catalist database as voting in that election. At face value, this means that 11.2% (38/339) of non-citizens voted in the 2008 election.
Applying this 11.2% figure to the Census Bureau’s estimate of 19.4 million adult non-citizens in the U.S., this amounts to 2.2 million non-citizens who voted illegally in the 2008 election. After weighting these results and accounting for margins of error, the authors estimated that a maximum of 2.8 million non-citizens voted in 2008.”

A scholarly report from Electoral Studies. prove3s illegals did and have voted before and their votes likely changed the Electoral count: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0261379414000973

Some highlights from the study:
“First use of representative sample to measure non-citizen voting in USA.
Some non-citizens cast votes in U.S. elections despite legal bans.
Non-citizens favor Democratic candidates over Republican candidates.
Non-citizen voting likely changed 2008 outcomes including Electoral College votes and the composition of Congress.
Voter photo-identification rules have limited effect on non-citizen participation.”

The allegation of illegals voting in the millions has been poo-pooed and mocked by many, they simply close their mind to the facts.

So, there is little point to the people of Delaware voting - their Electoral Votes would not be determined by the voters of their state, but by the voters of other states.

There is also no such thing as a “national popular vote” that is ever certified.

I guess they should award their Senators based on which party wins the “national popular vote” of Senators rather than their own voters as well - same logic.

so 206 from this method and what if the Dem candidate actually wins some other states and it totals more than 270? that 206 or whatever number it comes to will count for some of their total possibly wrongfully alotted Electoral Votes.

Also, when the states ratified the 12th Amendment, they gave up their power to make so-called winner-take-all laws for electoral votes imo.
Excerpted from the 12th Amendment: "The Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves; they shall name in their ballots the person voted for as President, and in distinct ballots the person voted for as Vice-President, and they shall make distinct lists of all persons voted for as President, and of all persons voted for as Vice- President, and of the number of votes for each, which lists they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the seat of the government of the United States, directed to the President of the Senate [emphasis added]; …"

Patriots need to support PDJT in leading the states to enforce the 12th Amendment.

MAGA!
