Here, in the United States, we are alarmed by new calls to adopt socialism in our country. America was founded on liberty and independence not government coercion, domination, and control. We are born free, and we will stay free.
President Donald Trump, State of the Union Address February 5, 2019
Venezuela is a real-time example of the failure of socialism. Promises of prosperity frequently lead to poverty for the masses and all-too-often opens the door to brutal dictators.
Nicolas Maduro is such a ruler and we sadly see daily reminders of how far he is willing to go to maintain his power. More than 3 million people are part of the exodus from Venezuela, with another 2 million expected to leave by the end of the year.
Once one of the most prosperous countries in this hemisphere, Venezuelas economy is falling apart. The socialism promoted by Mr. Maduro is hurting the people of his country. More than 9 out of 10 people live in poverty and the average citizen there has lost more than 20 pounds through malnutrition and deprivation.
Defenders of socialism dismiss Venezuela as an anomaly, but there are plenty of other examples: Cuba, Nicaragua, Zimbabwe and North Korea to name a few. And who can forget the collapse of the Soviet Union or the fall of the Berlin Wall?
Where is the similar list of failed democratic republics supporting free enterprise?
Sadly, many liberal politicians still embrace socialism. Bernie Sanders was for socialism before it became cool on the left as it is today, and many of his advisers view Venezuela as a model. Scary.
Socialism has failed over and over again. Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher said it best, The trouble with Socialism is that eventually, you run out of other peoples money.

The left seems to be doing a good job convincing young folks they will love socialism. With the future of our Republic in their hands I think it will be a toss up if they opt for that.
we pretty much are right now in practical terms.
Venezuela wasn’t ever going to be a socialist country either. We need to quit importing people who lean that way. We need to run off all the socialists in academia, gov’t and media.
We need to quit importing people who lean that way.

Scott Walker pretended not to notice that “Voces de la Frontera” was operating in his state as if the frontier with Mexico was the Wisconsin boundary.
Another Bush League Republican that helped to get US where we are.
A Newsweak cover declared that ‘we’re all socialists now’ once Hussein got elected. I wonder what they had on their minds.

Amen to that!
One could argue we are there already.
My Governor BUMP
The more I travel, the more I realize that the cultural conditions that gave rise to the British concepts of rule of law, protection of property, individual liberty, etc... are extremely rare and have almost never naturally occurred elsewhere. They have only been transplanted.
when American leftists and statists finish the job of turning us into some version of Brazil, Venezuela or South Africa in a couple generations, I am saddened to think such ideals may then be gone from the earth.
Anyone want to discuss Cartelfornia? There is no other voice but the “party” voice and it’s going so far left, streets full of excrement and taxed to the gills as it is.
Agreed. We are a partially socialist country. I appreciate President Trump’s sentiment, but he is, sadly, wrong.
I have said this for years. The evangelist Mark Taylor has said we’re going to need a period of martial law before it’s all over, just to clean up the Deep State cabal. I think Taylor is thinking too small. We probably need an American version of Augusto Pinochet or (going back into the ancient world) even a Sulla, but with more authority.
The rot in our society runs deep. That’s why I have said in the past that Trump must be given more power. If Trump were to be granted the title of emperor, that would put the very sovereignty of America into his hands. That’s a level of power I would trust to no person other than Trump, a man I believe was sent to us directly by God.
As an emperor, Trump would be temporarily able to rule entirely by decree. That would allow him to act fast and rid America of the left once and for all. Leftist institutions could be shut down, leftist leaders exiled, imprisoned or even executed without legalistic technicalities.
Imagine an America without the DemoRAT Party, CNN, unions, leftist universities or Hollywood communists. During an American Imperium, we also could dismantle or privatize all the big “social programs,” shut down numerous federal department and agencies, repeal the income tax and reestablish the US as the Christian nation it was founded to be.
After a decade or so, when the Republic is restored, it’d once again have a Constitutional government. 100-plus years of progressive treachery would be over.
Call me crazy, but I think that’s the path God wants for us.
The commies of Cuba were trying to support a rebellion in Venezuela way back in 1960. There was not a week go by without some “unmarked” guns being found with the Cuban arms crest ground off, or the bombing of an oil pipeline.
You hear that, Bernie and AOC?
It’s a continuum and we’re on it.
Conservatism is anti-domination;
liberalism is anti-interference.
Neither philosophy has weathered big government takeover
of the nation. We’re caught in the gravity of socialism,
pulled along by our inability to stop entitlements once they’re started.
It’s a truism that self-government works until the
citizens realize they can vote money out of their
neighbor’s pocket.
After a while, the Tree of Liberty must be watered
and a rest accomplished. Until then, remember...
something that can’t go on forever, won’t.
Any system of socialism is only a transitory event, ending up in one of two outcomes. Either the country slides into a state of decivilization, where there is little technological progress instituted in what remains of the industrial base (unless, of course, they can continue to steal the technological advances from somebody else, as Communist China is doing), or it becomes a military dictatorship, with endless conflict or threat of conflict at its borders, or sometimes within the country itself, as is happening in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, or the now failed state of Venezuela.
There is no other way socialism can revive itself and regenerate, as all initiative has been stifled, and it can only consume its accumulated stores of goods and capital until noting remains, so the regime is forced to steal from elsewhere.
Socialism builds nothing, it can only cannibalize what was already there.
We can hope and do our part, but we cannot be sure.
There are too many deluded people around, and evil ones who are able to manipulate them.
Maybe we won’t become more socialist than we already are. That seems unlikely given the demographic trends.
