On Thursday morning, Republican Senator Ted Cruz attended a breakfast gathering for the Christian Science Monitor where he warned, the Texas could absolutely be in play in 2020 now there’s a couple of quotes from Ted Cruz at that breakfast meeting that I want to read, and again, I have to go ahead and admit wholeheartedly I agree with most of what Ted Cruz says here and here it is.

I think the Texas election in 2018 is powerful foreshadowing for what to expect across the country in 2020 that is correct. The Democrats in Texas increased their turnout in more than 100% the far left has pissed off. They hate the president, and that is a powerful motivator. If the left shows up in massive numbers and everybody else doesn’t, that’s how we end up with an incredibly damaging election for the Republican party damaging election, and again, you’re right about that, but you’re wrong about it. Just being that we’re pissed off at the president. You see, that’s the thing I don’t think a lot of people grasp right now.

[cut]

Cruz continued. If we lose Texas, it’s game over.

And lets not forget the hand Rick Perry has played in all of this.

He, like a lot of other Governors in low tax, Red States, traveled far and wide to get big corporations to move to Texas. He promised everything that made Texas great. He promised jobs for Texans. Well, they started taking the bait and moved. Instead of all those jobs going to Texans, they brought all their liberal workers with them, who are consolidating in the cities and suburbs and changing the voting demographics all over the place.

Toss in his, in-state tuition for illegals, and you have a perfect storm.

Because their arrogance and attitude does not allow them to take responsibility for any of that. Liberals take no responsibility for anything.

The one thing he could have done was not backstab Trump. And his performance at the convention utterly sucked. Also his nasty trick with the Melania ad was low life as hell.

Everyone remembers Trump hitting back on his wife. Nobody remembers a day or two before that Cruz went after Melania.

“Yeh,for sure. But, I’m not sure how we could stop them.”

It woulda helped to not have Perry and Abbot beg them to come. They are the classic moron capitalists who sell the rope meant to hang them with.

Thanks conservative98. A couple of rallies by the President will ensure the turnout needed to keep those lovely electoral votes -- not sure whether it will benefit any RINOs running for (or running from) reelection though.

Ted Cruz shouldn’t be “warning”.

He should say that he will work tirelessly to make sure Republicans will carry Texas.

“What is causing divisiveness here is self interested career politicians like Cruz trying to create some daylight between themselves and Trump. I expect a lot more of this from the peanut gallery in the run up to 2020. No doubt these types are jockeying for ‘conservative’ leadership should Trump lose in 2020. Cruz himself has admitted he still has POTUS ambitions.”

Clueless. Enjoy CW2 under a democrat president in the not-too-distant future.

Have you even taken the time to look at the OTHER senators? Cruz is among the small number who actually listen to the conservative / traditional Republican / patriot concerns. He is better than Hutchinson whom he replaced when she retired and the Tea Party stopped the GOPe from installing their Dem-light candidate.

If you can find a better candidate for ANY position then by all means bring it. If you can BE such a candidate, do so. Otherwise put up or shut up.

Anti-Cruzers are FAR WORSE than ideological conservatives who will not settle for anyone less pure than Jesus. Anti-Cruzers think President Trump can do everything by himself. But even he buried the hatchet and helped Cruz because the president needed him.

Cruz is not voting for open borders, gun control, out-of-control spending, government-subsidized abortion, or LGBT over religious liberty. RINOs are weak on these things.

If anti-Cruzers put half as much effort defending against RINOs like Romney as they do attacking Cruz, we would probably have kept both chambers in 2018, and Texas would not be a battleground state.

Cruz is not criticizing or undermining the president. He is supporting him and is on the right side of most issues. Get over the personality issues or lose the nation.

I an a realist and I believe Ted Cruise is right about Texas being in play...I live in California a state ruined by liberalism. where do you think Californians are moving to after ruining this state Texas. most that are moving are doing this for financial reasons and not because the state is more conservative. expect an erosion of the percentage of conservative to libral along with voter fraud migrating there.

And FReepers shouldn’t be critiquing conservatives based liberal media headlines. Nowhere in the article (video) is Cruz actually quoted.

No, we aren’t going to lose Texas. Not with Trump on the ticket.

Amen. This is like Cruz’s 3rd warning in recent days. Uncalled for.

“The article actually does quote Cruz”

You’re right. It is not actually an article but a video. But the transcription failed to put what Cruz said in quotes (the video does not actually show Cruz but the person presenting does quote him partially). I thought due to the lack of quotes that it was merely a paraphrase. Note that the “quote” does not include Cruz using the word from the headline: “Warn”.

In other words, Cruz could have said exactly what you wanted him to say but the person reporting it could be merely calling it Cruz “warning” us.

This is a leftist website that quotes Cruz without any actual citation other than telling us where he got it. Here is a recording of the entire breakfast talk:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Xbku_ohiys

It is over an hour, and I am not planning to listen to the whole thing. What I did listen to does not have Cruz using the term “warn”. He starts off addressing gun control and then responds to a question about Texas. That’s where this video we’re discussing gets his comments from:

https://youtu.be/0Xbku_ohiys?t=701

Here is what he actually said: “I think Texas is a battleground. I think Texas is going to be hotly contested in 2020. I believe the president will win Texas.”

He also did say something very similar to what you said he should have said:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Xbku_ohiys&feature=youtu.be&t=843

“I very much hope we prevail in November, and I’m working hard for us to win in November.”

“Amen. This is like Cruz’s 3rd warning in recent days. Uncalled for.”

What’s uncalled for is FReepers nodding their heads in agreement with a radical liberal commentator and trusting headlines and soundbites from a liberal website against a solid conservative.

That’s nuts.

Try listening to his actual comments if you want to critique them. If Trump-supporting voters don’t take heed, they are going to regret it. He is explaining why it is urgent to get out the Republican vote to support the president and stop radical leftists. Attacking him for this is insane, but that’s what anti-Cruzers are.

Even after the owner of this forum said to stop attacking Cruz... even after a close call in 2018... even after President Trump buried the hatchet and endorsed Cruz for senate, there are some here who are so insane they would flush our victory down the toilet for spite because they still hold a grudge against Cruz.

Get over it.

If you want to be informed about what he said and look at the FACTS instead of liberal soundbites, you can listen to his whole conversation or even just this one part:

https://youtu.be/0Xbku_ohiys?t=701

Exactly. Cruz running his mouth in the press is leadership.

Recall when the border National Emergency executive order debate was raging. Cruz announced he was undecided, hid under his desk for a week and then in the end voted for it. THAT is not leadership. Tillis ended up changing his vote during that time. Perhaps if Cruz and other Senators had been more vocal in support of the National Emergency when it actually mattered more votes would have changed, too. Unfortunately, we will never know.

“Wanna get Republican Texans to turn out? Just keep reminding them that turning Texas blue is Obama’s dream.”

Exactly. This is why Cruz is sounding the alarm. Texas’ demographics have been continously moving left due to failure at the federal level to stop illegal immigration. Finally some progress appears to have been made this year but it is rather late coming.

Ted is absolutely right. Abbott won his first election in 2014 by 20%. His victory margin narrowed to 13% in 2018. Incumbents tend to expand their victory margins. 2018 was a warning shot. The RNC needs to spend some money in TX, or it will lose a significant % of the TX congressional delegation. A good number of GOP TX Reps are in real danger of losing their seats.

I despise agitprop ... particularly when it comes from a guy who nearly fumbled an easy Senate seat .... this isn’t a anti-tedlim rant, but this dude hops around on one foot constantly because he’s always shooting at the other foot.

Cruz has got this chick-like Imposter Syndrome as bad as I have ever seen in a man. This is exactly why he let Stabby train wreck his ‘16 “campaign”. This is exactly why the constant references to ‘dad’.

NOBODY CARES, Senator.

Do your goddamn job and otherwise stfu. You’re not that well-read, you’re not that well-spoken (duh), just sit quietly and await your orders from the New Emperor!
