Chuck Todd, the host of “Meet the Press,” fired back Thursday after being repeatedly accused of McCarthyism by conservative commentator and Fox News personality Tucker Carlson.
Mr. Todd delivered a monologue about McCarthyism during the NBC show’s latest episode, saying the term has been used recently absent “much intellectual honesty or care.”
Without mentioning Mr. Carlson by name, Mr. Todd weighed in on the heels of the Fox News host repeatedly comparing him this week to former Sen. Joe McCarthy, the late Wisconsin Republican who infamously accused Americans during the Cold War of being communists.
Mr. Todd played a montage during the segment that showed several politicians and pundits, including Mr. Carlson, among others, making references to modern day McCarthyism. He also played a clip of the former senator slamming distinguished late journalist Edward R. Murrow followed by video of President Trump similarly disparaging the press.
“Some believe McCarthyism was about the Soviet Union and Communists – external threats – but it wasn’t. It was about the damage this nation can inflict upon itself when we lose sight of our past and our principles, when we succumb to our basic instincts, when we favor fear over fact,” said Mr. Todd.
“McCarthyism wasn’t about Communism, it was about power. It wasn’t about exposing threats, it was about imposing fear. It wasn’t about them, it was about us,” Mr. Todd continued. “And now, here we are again confronting the very same machinations designed to confuse, obscure and antagonize.”
Mr. Todd ended the segment by paraphrasing a famous line from a 1954 Senate hearing that preceded McCarthy’s downfall.

Chuck Todd is an excellent example of the Dunning-Kruger effect.
“McCarthyism” was entirely about Communism. It was the Communist Party that coined the term.
It was all about the Reds. It was the cold war and the U.S. was inflitrated, in political offices/staffs, corporations, science and engineering... to avoid that truth, IS forgetting the facts of the matter.
Mutually assured destruction through a thermal nuclear exchange was one component of the cold war, gathering intel of all types was another. In many instances lives were lost in those efforts defending the country.
Mr. Todd is a fool.
McCarthy has been unfairly smeared for the inquisition that was run by Rep Richard Nixon, Roy Cohn and the House Unamerican Activities Committee in the early ‘50s.
McCarthy was actually the victim of a media smear campaign and not the perpetrator. When he began to expose actual Communist affiliations of DOD and Pentagon personnel the media turned the tables on him and ran a smear campaign alleging that he used his Senatorial office to get preferential treatment for Pvt. G. David Schine, a former member of the senator’s staff who had been drafted. Their campaign succeeded in discrediting him for all history and is the model they have been using ever since to go after Republicans.
Sorry, F Chuck. People who work for the coup colluding organs don’t get to talk about decency unless it is part of your mea culpa as you beg forgiveness from the country.

This little prick Todd is one piece of work. He can’t stand being compared to McCarthy since it is one of “THEIR” memes that McCarthy thought everybody was a Red (and he was pretty much correct about the State Dept).
Dude can’t stand that their “russia russia” and entertaining GPS Fusion’s paid for line of Bullcrap as a “truth” IS a version of Liberal McCarthyism... but much much worse, as there is NOTHING there to prove any of their crazed reporting, and blatant advocacy for the Left’s agenda.
