A group of Oregon residents is petitioning to have two counties in their state join Idaho, citing Oregons Democratic leadership.
Move Oregons Border for a Greater Idaho said Josephine and Douglas counties have accepted ballot initiatives supporting a goal of joining Idaho, the organization said in a press release earlier this month.
The Josephine County ballot initiative specifically makes it county policy to cooperate with any state effort to move the Oregon/Idaho border, if any such effort develops, the group said.
The Douglas County Initiative amends a current ordinance to add Idaho officials to the list of officials who may be lobbied by Douglas County commissioners. The suggested ballot question is Shall the County Board be authorized to advocate for Idaho legislation, such as making this county a county of Idaho? the group noted.
The group must gather 2,429 signatures in Josephine County by Aug. 5 and 2,955 signatures from Douglas County residents to appear on the ballot in the general election in November.

More volleying in the cold civil war.
Maybe it’s a good discussion topic but you’d have to get both state legislatures to sign off, plus the House and Senate in DC. Zero chance this would ever occur.
But if they did all line up and sign off....I could see five more states splitting off and doing the same act (western Virginia going to West Virginia would be one).
I’d prefer a conservative state of Jefferson, with two Senators and a number of Representatives.
Excellent idea! Idaho is WONDERFUL! Only they should reach deeper into California, maybe include the entire Central Valley, reach all the way to Bakersfield and Barstow.
Interesting but DOA. Just a couple thousand signatures does not make a groundswell of support. The tyranny of urban areas is entrenched and these efforts will not succeed. Besides, when is the last time state borders were substantially changed?
This kind of talk has been going on for 50 years or more.
Upstate NY would like to separate from Westchester County, NYC and Long Island.
Killington, VT wanted to join NH.
I suspect all of southern IL would like to separate from the Chicago area.
The panhandle of Florida would probably want to join Alabama.
It would be interesting to see a national effort to remap states, if that were ever possible. Problem is that today’s liberal or conservative areas will change in years to come. We see that happening across the country—people move and remake their new homes to match their old, like Californians moving to Nevada and expecting the same anti-2nd amendment laws.
Set up the state of Jefferson with the conservative counties/cities in S. Oregon and Northern California.
That would give us two more conservative senators and retain the conservative congressmen in those two states.
Watched a house fire one time. Just smoke coming out from the roof. Then one idiot walked up and hit the front door with an axe and the whole place burned to the ground in minutes.
But if they did all line up and sign off....I could see five more states splitting off and doing the same act (western Virginia going to West Virginia would be one).
We would pick up 10 new Senators in those states and retain the conservative congressmen in those states.
If President Trump can bring back the red state congress members we lost in the midterm, the Dems could be in real trouble.
Line needs to include Bend and Joseph.
California has in effect seceded from the Union. Perhaps parts of California can rejoin with portions of Greater Idaho
Amen to that. Most of Northern California and Southern Oregon has signed on to the SoJ movement.
Blue Oregon joins Washington and the rest join Jefferson. 50 states.
But then Oregon enjoys slapping us around. Why would they let it happen?
There hasn’t been anything like this since the 1860’s.
I was in Bend recently, and Californication of that area seems well underway.
it was well underway in the 70s. A done deal now.
The panhandle of Florida would probably want to join Alabama.
Whoa, maybe everything from the Alabama border north of Rt 10 to the Atlantic with a cut out around Tallahassee.
