McConnell says stimulus checks would go to most Americans, as senators eye higher amount

McConnell indicated job status would not be a factor, and that the money would go to unemployed workers and those recently laid off; those still working; and retirees, even if they're already receiving Social Security checks.

While officials have indicated the ultra-rich would not be eligible, McConnell said Thursday the checks would still go to everybody "from the middle class on down. Period."

How the middle class is defined can be a contentious subject when stimulus checks are on the line. One source told Fox Business Network that the amount would start to reduce for those making $75,000 and above -- and the checks would be limited to those who make $99,000 or less.

Hey who wants to listen in when I tell my brother this? :)

You’ll hear more English and Italian curses in a minute than most people hear in a year :)

They won’t care. Those generations believe that climate change will kill us in a few years.

So ultra-rich is now $100K and up? That’ll leave out virtually all of Silicon Valley, for starters.

As a small businessman who is the sole breadwinner in the family, these numbers do not make sense. If this is supposed to broad relief, including for small business, then the numbers are insane.

I suppose one way to look at it is that the government has possession of OUR money- Without us- they wouldn’t have any money at all- what they are giving people during this crisis is what these people paid into the system for years on end to keep these government bureaucrats in office-

They wouldn’t be giving us ‘government money’ - they would be giving BACK the people’s money- (Except for some of the welfare people who never worked a day in their lives)

It’s a shame that Trump has to spend trillions to beat the dems at their own game.

But the damage that biden would do in 4 years is worth a few trillion.

I never thought I’d say something that insane.

Bingo, we have a winner. We're massively in debt, the gov't prints money out of thin air, and it is future generations on the hook to pay for it. The Ponzi scheme is collapsing down on future generations as they have to work harder to "donate" to gov't and be able to keep a portion for themselves.

The best stimulus is to not tax people at all, let them keep what they earn. Taxes and tariffs on goods, okay. Individual income taxes, not okay.

The politicians are borrowing against your grandchildren’s incomes to pay for this, by which time those politicians will be long gone (Trump is floating the idea of 50-year bonds - bonds that don’t come due to be paid off for 50 years).

I think this is just the start...a panacea to make people feel better quickly.

Iif I get one, I will donate it to someone who actually needs it. I wouldn’t do anything with it except bank it.

Under such a plan, my youngest kid, who is 18, would get the full amount while my wife and I would receive 0.

I am not sure what the purpose of this would be.

Why not just stop all federal withholding until this is over?
