SANDUSKY, Ohio (WJW) — Cedar Point on Tuesday gave an update on the latest as it prepares to open the amusement park “as soon as it is safe to do so.”

The park released information on how it will manage 2020 season passholder benefits:

2020 Season Passes and purchased 2020 Season Pass Add-On Products (if applicable) will be valid for the remainder of 2020 when our park is able to reopen. Additionally, we will extend the validity dates for current 2020 Season Passes* (as well as purchased 2020 Season Pass Add-On Products) through the 2021 Season according to pass type. *2020 Pre-K Pass will be valid during 2020 only.

For 2020 Season Passholders participating in our Easy Pay Program, monthly billing has been suspended as of April 8, 2020, and will remain suspended while the park is closed. When the park reopens, billing will resume. Passholders will need to be current on payments to receive both 2020 and 2021 Season Pass admission and associated benefits.

Cedar Point said it will continue to work with guests who have prepaid single-day tickets for the time when the park remains temporarily closed.

You can direct ticket inquiries to www.cedarpoint.com/contact-us.

“We want nothing more than to reopen our park and welcome you back, but our priority for now is to keep everyone safe. This is a challenging time for us all, and we thank you again for your understanding and loyalty to Cedar Point,” the park wrote.

Very local news. But I guess I'm now a 2021 pass-holder. Hopefully we can still get some visits in for 2020.

For those of you who haven't been, this is probably the greatest roller coaster park in the world.

I love Cedar Point.

Grew up in Michigan and this place was magical to me as a kid in the 70’s (even before the corkscrew).

Went back about 5 years ago. Still awesome.

Haven’t been there in over two decades.

Last time I was there I bought myself and my GF each smoothies to stand in line with on a hot day. Mine was had alcohol and cost $11.00 (this was in like 2000). The line had an estimated queuing time of two hours but a park official came up to me and said I could not wait in line with alcohol. I said, you mean I couldn’t board the ride with it, right? No, you have to get out of line or throw it away. I chugged half until I got brain freeze and tossed it.

So I spend over $100.00 to get two of into an overcrowded park that smelled like sweating sticky gum wrappers on hot asphalt and stale ketchup only to be told I couldn’t stand for two hours in line to wait for a 45 second ride with an alcoholic beverage that I got gouged for. This at a rate of 9 hours queuing for maybe 6 or 7 rides.

Other than the social when you are there with friends, I have no clue what people like about that place.

Never been back.

Owned stock in cedar fair for a long time too. They could kiss my backside.

My personal favorite. Although now I enjoy simply riding the "choo choo" from the midway back to Frontier Town, grab a beer, repeat.

And Disney will most probably cancel the season passes. I read somewhere that Disney is still charging a monthly bill to season pass holders credit cards even though the parks are closed. The mouse never looses and has mysterious ways of public relations.

And that's why I love riding the "choo choo" train. My enjoyment comes from dumping the kids at the park and letting them run wild while I sip a beer on a bench and then ride the train past the shooting skeletons in their western town. Seasons passes were only $100 this year. Well worth it.

Also, with a $100 season's pass, I can ride one "big" ride and not have to worry about cramming it all in on one day. We can go on a weekday, or when the weather is slightly crappy, and have a lot of fun.

Yup. The mouse needs his money, and people are all too glad to give it to him.

Not local at all. Cedar Point has several World Class roller coasters. And lots of other good ones.

It’s been many decades since I visited Cedar Point as a youngster. Many fond memories of those Roller Coasters!

This is a very nice move on their part IMO.

ALL season passes sold by Cedar Fair have extended the passes with any extra add ons that you purchased through December 31, 2021. My platinum pass is from Knott's Berry Farm (in California). I got to go a couple of times in January when I was visiting the state. Gas was more than $1.00 a gallon higher there than it was in Georgia at the time.

I still hope for a Cedar Point visit the summer, but who knows.

Even if the quarantine goes on a while yet, the park is normally only open weekends early in the season, which means, the company saves a pile of labor costs, and when finally open, probably will go fulltime and be jam-packed with 10s of 1000s of cabin fever sufferers.

PLUS this year they offered seasons passes for $100 which is a steep discount. We were planning on massive crowds anyway. Last Halloween they shut their causeway down multiple times.

The stock (it's a MLP, but trades like a regular stock) dropped to about $13 at one point, and brainless here managed to sleep through that, the lowest price in about 35-40 years I think. Not sure it's going to get back near its 52 week high during 2020, but won't be surprised if it gets there in 2021. I do wonder about the dividend, or rather, the distribution of earnings. The June one should be okay, probably the September as well, but the amount of the next four will be determined in the fall and begin in December I think.

“I should say Magnum XL lol”

I’m sure the local wags have another, more colorful, name for it. Care to share???

As to Cedar Point’s bold marketing move, I’m hoping that Silver Dollar City in Branson MO notices and takes a similar step since I’m a season pass holder there.

I have a MousePass. They’ve told me they’ll extend my MousePass for the length of the shutdown.

If the Mouse’s financials deteriorate after they re-open, I suspect the Mouse will be offering deals on my renewal.

Cedar Fair has decided to suspend the quarterly dividend, and has cut its planned capital improvements for 2020 by about half. As expected, it has cut expenses (including most labor expenses) until the siege lifts. It was a pretty good day for the unit price. :^)
