Tyson Foods will reduce prices on some beef products this week, as grocery store prices soar

Tyson Foods will be discounting prices on certain products for the remainder of this week.

The price reductions will vary, but Tyson told CNNsome beef items sold to grocery stores, restaurants and other customers could be discounted by 20% to 30% through Saturday.

“We’re doing this because we want to help keep beef on family tables across our nation, especially as our beef plants return from reduced levels of production,” said Gary Mickelson, the company’s senior director of public relations.

Tyson’s announcement comes as American grocery store price tags are soaring. Overall, the price of groceries grew 2.6%, including seasonal adjustments, in April. That was the biggest increase from one month to the next since 1974, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Tyson said the discounts will be on items such as chuck and round roasts, as well as some other ground beef products.

There is plenty of meat right now, but hard to get it to market, and closed restaurants don't need supplies. Similar story about corn out there.

Is Tyson meat from China? Or from USA?

It’s a logistics issue. Pre-pandemic, the country ate about 1/2 of its meals out. Now, that number is probably in the 10% range. Suddenly lots more food need to go through grocery stores and the grocery store supply chain that isn’t set up for the volume. On the other side of the equation, the logistics chain that supplied restaurants and cafeterias has seen a huge drop in business.

Our freezer is full, we have a source of good home grown veggies and eggs. I don’t mind paying more for quality. But I do worry about those who are living on a tight budget. God bless them.

I’m one of those folks< Mercat. However, I’m fortunate enough to live where there are a lot of people who run cattle and own pigs & chickens. It’s always a good idea to be friendly with your neighbors, but some times are especially advantageous. :-)

Tyson Foods is an American company located in Springdale, Arkansas.
Tyson was originally a poultry producer but branched out when they bought out Iowa Beef Packers, the number one beef processor and number two pork processor in the US.
Since buying IBP Tyson has also bought Wright, Jimmy Dean, Ball Park and Hillshire Farm.

We have a wonderful resource on Facebook called “Shop Kansas Farms.” It was started less than a month ago and someone said it has 100k members. We buy local meat, eggs, veggies, and there’s local milk I need to buy and several places to buy bread. I also have a garden. I’m going to plant more spinach and lettuce today since it’s been so cool.

A seasonally adjusted 2.6% is soaring? In a free market, price changes send signals to consumers to substitute and to producers to make more. It happens very rapidly, albeit not perfectly. Cattle cycles last longer than hog cycles which last longer than chicken cycles.

Central planners are often frustrated in their ongoing attempts to screw up free markets, which is why they constantly crave more power to do so.

Be proactive depression isn't just an economic thing - because economics are based a lot on psychology and many are about to go very bleak.

If ranchers are forced to cut herds that’s a 2 year recovery before things get back to normal. Personally beef has been jacked up since the last drought.. proecessors and retailers raised prices but never lowered them when herd numbers returned to normal.
