IL GOP leaders CHOSE him and then totally didn’t support him. They gave it to Obama. Gave. And this coming off Jack Ryan or whatever his name was dropping out over the most absurd sex scandal in history, wanting to have sex with his own wife. What a travesty.

Thanks for the memories. I remember those several days in which we worked our way into the union league club down on van buren where the gop state central committee was meeting to select a replacement for Jack Ryan. What a collection of misfits; from general borling (who serenaded us on the piano in the waiting room), to ice cream magnate jim oberweis, and to some one-armed farmer from western illinois (an obvious victim of the combine).

I remember on the last day some female african american (whose name cannot recall) was smuggled in up the back freight elevator --- she was predicted to become our new messiah. Shortly thereafter they totally closed the meeting and began ushering us out. I remember chicagolady kept screeching she was being ejected for being hispanic.

We gathered on the sidewalk outdoors to continue our protest and trying to capture as much press attention as possible. I remember several of us talking with kass at some length.

Oh, happy days!!!

Who should have received that nomination? Since Peter Fitzgerald was a state senator, I think the nominee should have been a state senator. Steve Rauschenberger ran, in that primary, so he would have been a good choice. He’s not as conservative as I am, but he would have done better than Keyes did.

I did some work for Rauchie in that primary, but he pretty much refused to get back into it after the Ryan debacle. I always thought he was a good guy who would’ve have done a good job, but he was never an overly exciting candidate.

They got it into their head that nominee should be Black. I remember this woman prospective candidate you speak of, she was a RINO and I think a Dr. or Scientist or Professor or something, I also can’t recall the name. She was a total political unknown but they tried to pimp her. She was never heard from again as far as I know. You remember that Billyboy?

Who SHOULD it have been Phil? Mike Ditka. Yes, I’m rehashing that. He could have run 5 points ahead of Bush and won. If Bush and Rudy G and everyone went to his house to beg him I bet he would have done it, 50 nos and a yes means yes. Celebrity sells.

Then and now we need electable Senate candidates like we need air.

I remember arriving later than planned that day and was surprised to have her pushed into the freight elevator along with one of her security people. i cannot recall her name for the life of me (i think it started with a "b"), but do remember, as you do, her coming from the academic community: u of c? chicago state? malcomb x?

I found her, thank you “Our Campaigns”

https://www.ourcampaigns.com/RaceDetail.html?RaceID=103210

Andrea Grubb Barthwell, it notes she is pro-choice

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrea_Barthwell

M.D. and “Deputy Director for Demand Reduction at the Office of National Drug Control Policy” under Bush 43.

A recent mention of her

https://khqa.com/news/state/groups-urge-lawmakers-not-to-legalize-recreational-marijuana

She’s still opposing Weed legalization

If you click on the OC link apparently I've been to that page before and chose Al Salvi from the available choices. 😝

Ted Nugent's name is there for some reason.

Ditka should’ve been the replacement nominee to face Zero. But if the IL GOP wasn’t so corrupt and dirty due to Combiner collusion, Sen. Peter Fitzgerald should’ve been handily reelected on the platform of anti-corruption. A normal state would’ve.

I’m not surprised that Nugent’s name is there. In June of 2004, I read that he considered running for the U.S. Senate. He didn’t live in Illinois, at that time, but he said that he lived there when he was a kid.
