Billionaire bond investor Jeffrey Gundlach, who accurately predicted Donald Trump's presidency in early 2016 before the Republican primaries concluded, believes the president will win re-election.
"My base case is actually that Donald Trump will win re-election," Gundlach said during a Q&A on a webcast for his firm DoubleLine Capital's closed-end funds on Tuesday afternoon.
The 60-year-old billionaire said he'd "bet against" former Vice President Joe Biden defeating Trump in November.
"I think polls are very, very squishy right now because of the highly toxic political environment in which we live," Gundlach said. Gundlach said hes come across data suggesting that about "two-thirds of conservatives or moderate conservatives say that they have lied about their support for Donald Trump either directly or by omission."
"I just think there's a lot, a lot of time here. There's going to be twists and turns," Gundlach added.
For markets, he expects "significant" volatility, usually the case close to a presidential election.
"This go-around, I expect much greater volatility around the election as the progressive policies, so-called, of tremendous increased deficit spending for basically wealth manipulation, that could get pretty heated, and we'll see what happens."

Since he’s a billionaire investor, I’m sure he knows of this adage in the Mutual Fund industry:

These guys get rich by accurately reading the tea leaves most of the time. If ridin/harris was a reasonable chance of winning the investments would go a different direction.
Always bet on people with skin in the game.
UNless this is a massive head fake to get people to go in the opposite way he is planning.
I was looking at Allan Lichtman’s 13 keys to the white house, and I disagree with him on Biden’s upcoming win. Is Covid a factor against any sitting white house? The long term stock market is so much better than when he took office. Joe “No Malarkey” Biden is as charismatic as his slogan. And the civil unrest is not focused at the president nor is it widespread, and support for gun control is WAY down. I see it as more than tossup to President Trump even if Prof. lichtman does not depending on the count.

I predicted Donald Trump would win the 2016 U.S. Presidency. Where is my attaboy?
Attaboy!
Past Performance is no Guarantee of Future Results
Perhaps not, but there are about a hundred indications that Trump will win, and only one indication that hell Ill lose: fake news polls.
Incumbents almost always win re-election
President Trump is an exceptionally strong incumbent.
Biden is a exceptionally weak challenger.
The Democrat agenda is absurdly Left of center.
The Trump America First agenda is unbeatable.
The Trump America First agenda is unbeatable
I totally agree with what you said and this last line is the best but if he doesn’t get majorities in the House and Senate, his next 4 years will be for naught I fear. Of course he has run rings around the Demons and got great things done IN SPITE of the faux press and the Demonrats. I just hope his final 4 years will be made easier by having those majorities........
I hope so too
Since Biden is from Pennsylvania, it scares me he might take that state.
We really need PA, OHIO, MICHIGAN, FLORIDA.
Not a tough call after looking at the opposition and seeing
Freebie and the Feeb.
I hope you are right.
