More than 57% of New Mexico voters have already cast their ballot.
"A tremendous number of people have already voted, more than ever before, early,” said KOAT political analyst Brian Sanderoff.
To put this in perspective, the previous record for early and absentee voting was 48%. That was set in 2008 when Barack Obama won his first term as president.
"This is a clerk's dream. I am loving every minute of this,” said Bernalillo County Clerk Linda Stover. "Hopefully we can keep this enthusiasm. This is how it should be for every election.”
So, why are so many people voting early. Is it because of COVID-19?
"Turnout would have been high regardless just because this is a high-profile election, lines drawn between Donald Trump and Joe Biden,” Sanderoff said.
Stover said her office is seeing a mix of voters.
"We have had a lot of first-time voters, 18-year-old people vote,” Stover said. “We had some older people vote for the first time. They never voted and they are elderly and they said, ‘This time I am gong to vote.’"
“We are on our way to having record breaking voter turnout,” Sanderoff said.
The overall record for voter turnout is 77%. That too was set the year Obama won.
For us to hit that number, about 270,000 New Mexicans will have to show up on Election Day -- not unheard of. About the same number of people showed up at the polls in 2016 when Trump won his first term.
“This is not a ho-hum election,” Sanderoff said. “This is an election where people have very strong feelings one way or the other.”

I’m in NY- i don’t think President Trump wins but i think it will be much closer than anyone expects and we will swipe seats in the House...two things:
1- i live in New Castle, same town as the clintons. Liberal craphole. There was literally no line when i went to vote today. Two minute wait. Tells me there is no enthusiasm for biden.
2- My buddy lives in Putnam county, just north of me. Very Republican- went McCain in 2008. He said there were long lines at 6AM this morning.

My nephew and his wife are first time New Mexico voters and they voted for Trump. They are proud Hispanics. They love Trump and hate the NM governor even more. New Mexico is TIRED of her and her control.

New Mexico has been overrun with Santa Fe finocchios, granolas, bums, CA and NY lefties, and other assorted hippies and welfare takers. I’ll be surprised if it flips, but I’d love to be surprised. I’d especially like Ronchetti to win the Senate seat.
