My father was a polio survivor who spent the year 1945 in an iron lung. We got every vax available, any whining got the “you want a withered limb like mine?” lecture regardless of what the shot of the day was.
I’m excited by the mRNA technology. This is going to lead to customized cancer vaccines. Take a sample of the tumor and synthesize a vaccine for it that will teach your own immune system to recognize and kill the cancer cells. Chemo and surgery will become last resort treatments.
One moderately overweight but in his 50’s, the other two just over 60 but in good health. Lived in three different states. They succumbed. I used to be anti-vaccine. I’m not now.
If given HCQ, Ivermectin, Zinc, and a broad spectrum antibiotic like Azithromycin, deaths would have been cut by 80%. There was no incentive to cut deaths for scientists or medical bureaucrats.

You remember the stories about children getting polio, stories told in families everywhere. I remember the day and the feeling of swallowing the sugar cube which contained the Salk anti-polio medicine. Who doesn’t?
It’s impossible to explain to a covid lockdowned public how Americans lived with risks everyday. My own child said today, “You had measles, mumps, chicken pox!?” We all got sick with them and if survived without rare negative consequences thanks to mothers nursing at home, one was happy. Everyone knew that adults have more serious complications from these illnesses so “better to get them in childhood.”
Common sense and knowledge of science, both absent today.
Ah as it turns out, the CDC once admitted the polio virus contained a simian virus linked to cancer, but the later scrubbed it.

Older Americans are also more likely to want it than younger Americans (89% of those 65 and older definitely or probably will). And men are more likely than women.
So we have older folks, men, and whites. Hardly the “RAT voters who are scared out of their whits”. If anything, this is describing the base of the conservative movement.

Your attitude would have led to tens of thousands of additional cases of polio in the mid-to-late 1950s. Many older kids in my hometown and several of my classmates were afflicted with polio before the Salk and Sabin vaccines were widely available.
Comparing polio to the corona-virus is pathetic.

I replied that, 65 years ago, the remarkably successful, safe, and effective Salk polio vaccine was widely distributed after less than one year of a large-scale human trial. There were not “years and years” of human testing behind it.
