The Senate and lawyers for former President Donald Trump on Saturday reached a deal to avoid witness depositions in his impeachment trial — averting a potentially weeks-long drama sparked by an 11th-hour request by Democrats to depose a Republican congresswoman.
The deal allowed for a statement by Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-Wash.) to be read into the record without the congresswoman or anyone else being deposed as a formal witness.
The compromise allows for the trial potentially to end on Saturday as was initially expected. Trump is expected to be acquitted of inciting the Jan. 6 Capitol riot in a mostly party-line vote.
Impeachment managers led by Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) surprised senators on Saturday morning by saying that they wanted to depose and subpoena notes written by Herrera Beutler regarding Trump’s remarks during the riot.

Something smells fishy. The Democrats caved to easily.
Maybe getting Beutler’s statement read into the record was the objective all along.
The leaks to the press prior to this morning’s ambush had to be preplanned and coordinated with what happened today.
The deep state is never going to relent. They are just going to move on to the next thing. Maybe the 14th amendment prohibiting anyone from running for office that has “engaged in insurrection”.
I trust no one and take nothing at face value any longer.

The Dems did not want witnesses because the truth of what really happened on the 6th would come out.
The Leftists want their theater left intact.

I sincerely hope Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-Wash) is primaried and thrown out of office ASAP. I lived in that district for 11 years. It was a reliable red district during my time there.

To be clear...it was NOT a bluff. It was a miscalculation. They did not think their tactic through. When Lindsay voted for it, they figured it out.
Please pardon me for being pedantic, but-the congresswoman’s parents probably just didn’t check for the proper spelling of the name for a female-I had a best friend named “Jaime”-he was called “Jim” by everyone because that is what he preferred-he was Hispanic-so am I-I have a female cousin named “Jamie”-which is the proper spelling for the female name-in English or Spanish.
The original name goes all the way back to the Hebrew language and means something like God will protect-the name has been sort of unisex for as long as I can remember, but the female spelling is supposed to be “Jamie”...

If you Google for “The peaceful takeover of the United States” You will find the source as well as the author. He is right on the money and unless something drastic is going to happen I do believe the US cooked its goose which laid the golden eggs. Too bad to see it happen.

If I was a senator, here’s what I’d do.
Call Nancy Pelosi. Swear her in.
Ask: Is this an official impeachment trial? Yes or No.
She would answer: Yes.
Ask: Is this impeachment trial being conducted as described in the constitution? Yes or No. Remember, you are under oath and subject to perjury.
If she answers yes, nail her to the wall with exact constitution quotes about “removal from office” and “Supreme Court Justice shall preside”
If she answers no. I’d say “OK, I’m out of here”.
Dang. This thing needed to go on for months.
So Herr Pelosi convicted a man based on rumors.
