Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough is taking steps toward making gender transition surgery available to veterans through Veterans Affairs health-care coverage, according to a new report.
A VA department spokesperson reportedly told CNN that McDonough plans to announce the move at a Pride event at the Orlando Vet Center in Florida on Saturday.
“We are taking the first necessary steps to expand VA’s care to include gender confirmation surgery — thus allowing transgender vets to go through the full gender confirmation process with VA by their side,” McDonough is expected to say.
The VA Health Benefits package currently covers mental-health services and sex-change hormones, but does not cover gender-transition surgery.
McDonough’s prepared remarks note that “there are several steps to take, which will take time.” Policy changes will need to be made and the process of creating a new federal regulation can take years.

They say there are 15,000 active duty transgender military personnel. I find that mind boggling. My poor nephew has a boss whose confused. Was a gal, but I guess thought life is easier as a guy. Strange.
This is beyond ridiculous. The VA needs help to be able to help veterans.
Are there seriously more vets who need trans surgery than who need medical care, perhaps psychiatric care for PTSD, handicapped accessible homes, etc.?

The last I heard the VA does not even have the money to take care of many medical illness’s. Just sit back and watch the destruction of everything.
I agree with what you say...it must be nice to have so much money left over in your budget so as to be able to do this. Another Biden stupid idea. As a limited participant in the VA program, I would much rather see being able to get a little more NECESSARY care that I don’t presently qualify for than to spend money for something as totally unnecessary as “Gender Transition Surgery”. This is idiotic.
