NYC’s $100B budget is the size of Florida’s — but de Blasio doesn’t care

Mayor Bill de Blasio dismissed criticism that his $98.7 billion budget — the largest in the city’s history — is nearly the same as the spending plan for the entire state of Florida.

“I don’t pray at the altar of the fiscal conservatives and the budget hawks and the pro-austerity forces that have led us astray so many times and didn’t want to ever invest in working people,” de Blasio said Friday on WNYC’s “The Brian Lehrer Show.”

Lehrer had asked de Blasio about criticism from “fiscal conservatives and deficit hawks,” who’ve made the comparison even though “Florida is a whole state with 20 million people, New York is a city of 8 million.”

New York City will just replace De Blasio with another dummy.

That’s $14,000 per New Yorker per year.

De Blasio needs lots of engraved pictures of Robert Mugabe.

“The FY 2022 Enacted Budget includes first-in-the-nation legislation requiring internet service providers to offer an affordable $15 per month high-speed internet plan to qualifying low-income households. The State will also require providers to advertise this plan to ensure programs reach underserved populations across the State.”

“The FY 2022 Enacted Budget authorizes the withholding of up to 50 percent of state and federal funds from jurisdictions that fail to produce a police reform plan and comply with the Governor’s Executive Order 203, the New York State Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative. It also requires the Attorney General to install a monitor until the jurisdiction is compliant, if the Governor directs.”

“New York’s $311 billion infrastructure plan includes the Governor’s $211 billion 2020-24 plan and his $100 billion 2015-2019 plan.”

Most of it is going into his pocket.

If there is anyone out there who thinks this will never come back to haunt, then I suggest you study what happened to Detroit after 20 years of wanton spending.

Wow, that’s a lot of money.

Florida has about 21 million people, vs. New York City has a bit over 8 million. So per capita, NYC spends a ton of money.

I think I heard NYC has a city income tax, which residents pay over and above their state and federal income taxes.

I don’t know about property taxes or other taxes, but would guess they have higher tax rates and a higher tax burden than most other places in America.

New York City has a card to play that they didn’t have at this time last year. There’s a decent chance now that the federal government will (somewhat) bail out the big cities.

And this will give those cities a good chance to get their budgets in line. I kid, of course. All the federal money they receive will be wasted on corrupt nonsense.

That’s easy, make the “rich” subsidize that with higher bills.
Soon “the rich” definition is lower and lower on the income scale.

...“to aggressively pursue … tax cheats”

Really? Seems to me politicians don't go after their own. If that weren't true, how is Al Sharpton not in jail? Seems to me that $19 million in past due taxes should see him in jail and all of his assets seized, but de Blasio wants to go after tax cheats? I don't believe him.

FYI - state property tax comparison

https://www.mortgagecalculator.org/helpful-advice/property-taxes.php

But the New York state rates are skewed with much lower taxed property upstate NY offset by very high rates in the NYC and NYC metro area.

"... “I don’t pray at the altar of the fiscal conservatives and the budget hawks and the pro-austerity forces that have led us astray so many times and didn’t want to ever invest in working people,” de Blasio..."

How does one even begin to unpack that statement?

One wonders what he means about "investing in working people". It is probably not what a sane person would think.

"Investing in working people" is democrat speak for "Give more free stuff to lifelong welfare recipients who have never worked a day in their life".

New Yorkers are idiots. Most see no problem with either the city or state budgets.

Those voting for Kaiser Wilhelm Deblasio are the takers and those who profit along with them. "I don't take tax money, I just run a store that sells to tax takers."

The victims are those who let him. The victims are also those in other states who allow New York City to take money from citizens in other states via the Federal government.

There's a reason why our Founding Fathers determined the income tax Unconstitutional.

Why should he care. It’s not money out of the elites’ pocket.
