The famous public intellectual Cornel West has dramatically quit his job at Harvard University following a tenure dispute, accusing the esteemed school of 'spiritual rot' and 'superficial diversity.'
In a resignation letter he shared publicly on Monday night, 68-year-old West slammed Harvard's administration and revealed a litany of personal and professional complaints.
'How sad it is to see our beloved Harvard Divinity School in such decline and decay,' he wrote in the letter. 'The disarray of a scattered curriculum, the disenchantment of talented yet deferential faculty, and the disorientation of precious students loom large.'

Normally if you don’t get tenure, you don’t need to resign - it’s the academic equivalent of being terminated (the usual policy is if you don’t earn tenure after a specific time interval - generally seven years - you can’t continue in a position that’s designated as “tenure track”).

I think it was not his Leftist bent for which tenure was denied. I think it might be that in spite of his Leftist bent, he maybe was not “collegial” enough with his colleagues - not so much a “team player”. If academia loves anything more than anything else, it loves those who go along to get along.
Actually, this is the first thing Harvard has done in decades that suggests it may still be worthy of some respect.

I’m curious, though. So many of the things from the past, that the Left brings up as racist, are things that were put in place by the Democrats.

West is not stupid. Just because we disagree with someone doesn’t make them stupid.
He definitely has a big ego/chip. He engaged in a lot of negative interaction with a former Harvard president and bent a lot of people over this. Also, upsetting a large number of donors isn’t healthy to one’s career.
Yeh, while Joe has dementia and deteriorating fast, Cornell is crazy as an outhouse rat. He should be Joes official minister being the Catholic Church won’t give him communion.
