Just curious!
As long as they think it would help their cause, they would be for it.
As long as it was a leftist, socialist entity doing the controlling, they’d welcome it.
They already have it.
The ‘Mockingbird media’ controls news media, PLUS the ‘mockingbird internet’
Look to Germany for that. They’ve already done it.
Worst opus ever
The left would love total control of all data on the internet and if things keep going the wrong way they may get control of the network...but there is another!
When the Starlink data lasers are turned on and the satellite constellation links together and no longer requires ground stations to support it...then we shall have some sport.
That is where Trump’s social media and news will eventually wind up..IMO.
Shutting the terrestrial internet down would not shut down the Starlink network... everyone with a Starlink setup would still be linked together. It would be quite possible to run a fast server from you home hooked to a standard Starlink phased array antenna.... the data speed can be greatly increased beyond what is currently offered to users.
The handheld smartphone-like devices they are designing now for Starlink would be satellite phones that would link to the network of LEO sats and provide data access to the network, albeit at slower speeds than the home based stations.
Interestingly the Starlink sats are, of course, very sophisticated SDR transceivers. Once the vast array of sats is complete this constellation will be capable of receiving and transmitting signals to/from the ground on frequencies from low-vhf into the ghz ranges. It takes very little imagination to see what this would be capable of... i.e. trivial, but fun, things like having the constellation listen to all FM broadcast and TV broadcast frequencies planet-wide and making it available to all users... kinda like the old shortwave listening hobby on steroids... the constellation could receive virtually any signal broadcast from the ground... even very weak signals.
Some current smart phones can be used as sat phones by updating their firmware to shift the SDR slightly outside the cellular bands. The modern smart phone is a very sophisticated frequency agile device if you know how to modify the firmware. Typically they have about 0.6 watts of output power but that is plenty for sat comms considering it is line-of-sight. The rf section of phones are somewhat a black-box but documentation is out there...
As an aside, the SDR chip inside the ultra cheap (20USD) Baofeng handy talkies is a hoot to play with... the chips are less than a dollar to purchase in small lots.
Here is a PDF of the Baofeng’s SDR chip... the chip can operate outside the frequency ranges detailed in the datasheet... https://www.radioradar.net/en/files.html?fid=786541
Cellular SDR chipsets are far more sophisticated than these.. but these are great fun to play with :-)
Great reply!
I'm expecting a switch from Mockingbird internet to Starlink as well... and I think it is quite imminent. One circumstantial piece of evidence is the flurry of network problems (see https://downdetector.com/archive/). Consider that the FED went down a bunch of months ago, FB et-al went down about a month ago, and all the false flag "hackings" and "ransomes".
I believe the internet will first go down completely, and will be down for 10-14 days. Then, starlink will be brought up online for all.
