Because once they get in they make sure that "their people" get priority.

And also it allows companies to say "look how diverse we are" without actually having to find an actual "minority".

I don’t think Dinesh D’Souza is a fake. I don’t know him personally, but I am going to guess you don’t either. I have read enough of his writing to have a feel for what he is. His book “What’s So Great About America” proves he understands and appreciates America far better than a great number of native born Americans.

It doesn’t mean I monolithically agree with him on everything, but heck, I didn’t monolithically agree on everything with Trump or even Reagan.

But I think Dinesh D’Souza is more worthy of being an American than a huge number of people who were born here, and call themselves conservatives.

I don’t discount Indians that I have personally known, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t see some of them as scum, because there are certainly some of them I dislike a great deal for the same reasons many (including you) have outlined.

I don’t think those views are mutually exclusive.

I just don’t paint them all with the same brush.

So then, Indian people aren’t much different from people in general?

(I think some posters here have some ‘issues’ with regard to their personal fields.)

I’ve spoken on this thread to my own experience with Indian people who are mostly in the bioengineering field. They’ve all been excellent professionals.

Good gosh, of course. There are commonalities with people everywhere, and I work with people from many cultures. There are excellent engineers who are white Americans and some who suck.

Same for Chinese. Japanese. Korean. Black. Female. Homosexual.

I won’t paint a broad brush with all people. I won’t do it. Do I think there are some trends?

Yes.

But I take each individual I work with on an individual basis. I give people default respect until they give me a reason NOT to respect them as a professional or an individual. And that is it.

I will not paint people with a broad brush, because my personal experience shows me that a broad brush is unfair.

It doesn’t mean I don’t see trends. I do. But I won’t damn people due to a trend, I will damn them based on my specific persona experience, and that is all I can do.

And I hope people will do the same for me, even if I know that won’t be a uniform experience.

And I will add, of COURSE Indian people are different from “people in general” given the people in general I know.

How could I, as an American, NOT view Indian people as different”. They are. It doesn’t mean a cripplingly bad or good thing. It just...”is”.

I would expect, from their Indian perspective, them to view me in much the same way. How could expect otherwise?

But that is as old as the ages.

I am a flawed person. I know that. I can be stubborn, irrational, temperamental, emotional, flat out wrong, judgmental and even discriminatory.

That is just who I am.

But I know all these things, and I have battled them nearly every single bloody day of my life. I try. I try hard. And I fail.

But when I do wrong, I pick myself up, dust myself off, try to right any wrong I have done, and try harder not to repeat it in the future.

I do this nearly every day with the love of my life. And I often fail, repeating the same damned mistakes.

Sigh.

I wish I were one of those people who learn a lesson from a failure and never repeat it, but...I am not. I often repeat mistakes multiple times and have to learn the hard way. I hate it.

But I try. I feel like I spend an embarrassingly lot of time apologizing to people for any number of errors and flaws, and trying to make it up to people.

Damn.

I cannot help but admire people who don’t have to endure this stupid cycle, but...I guess at my age, I won’t do much better and have to get by. The fact that I can generally maintain good relationships with people both personal and professional, and they appear to hold me in high esteem in spite of my apparent flaws is some proof to me that I am not totally making a dog’s breakfast of everything. I wish I could do things right the first time and cut out the nonsense.

In my experience, people are just people.

If we divide people into ‘groups’ whom we suspect have certain uniform characteristics, we are missing their humanity.

I am interested in *Individuals*. Individuality is the only thing that is truly ‘diverse’ among humanity.

LOL!

I’ve never met anyone who didn’t have to ‘endure the stupid cycle’.

We’re all stubborn and slow to learn.

Fortunately, God has given us Life, and plenty of time to practice getting it all right.

Exactly.

I have thought long and hard about this, and have developed (as I said) a personal philosophy of “Default Respect”.

I am subject to all the flaws and prejudices anyone is subject to.

But when I meet someone, I square up to them, look them in the eye, talk to them as an equal, and get the measure of them regardless of whether they are male or female, black or white or any color, tattooed up and down or blank like me, homosexual or straight, and try to deal with them straight up.

If they deal with me straight up, I reciprocate, and we go from there. If not, well, I do what I must to keep on an even keel in all respects.

I have paid the price for this approach on occasion, and been accused in retrospect of being naive. But more often than not, it has worked for me, and I can live with myself and the outcome.

Sigh.

At my age, I would think I would have learned a good many lessons and retained the ability to call them up and avoid stupidity, but I still trip.

Well, I guess when I die, there won’t be any more of that!

almost ALL of india live in ghettos and shanty town of unspeakable poverty...

we don't need no stinking lectures from the likes of them...

and the ONLY reason indians dominate in the Silicon valley is because they are inherently racist and hire only other Indians....

The head of Twitter is now an H-1B dot head that is and out an out racist. At least he is open about it. The other Indians hide their hatred of whites, a legacy of British colonialism’s backlash.

Wow. You really have a very limited experience of people - or you’ve concentrated your thought on the things you actively resent.

It’s a sad way to live, and I feel sorry for you.

Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal: ‘Why Should I Distinguish Between White People and Racists?’

“The kinds of things that we do about this is, focus less on thinking about free speech, but thinking about how the times have changed.” -- Parag

So you are identifying all Indian people with one?

There are over a billion people in India, and many thousands of them are in the US now. I doubt you’ve known more than a few yourself.
