Just heard a Russian aircraft went down.
No one wants to say it but the only thing that might deter Putin and Xi is an actual military red line. That could have been in Western Ukraine if the world had reacted more quickly, rather than Biden immediately evacuating.
The danger of a wider war is that we retreat from conflicts and display weakness until we finally have to stand and fight.
Biden is tailor made for our enemies because he thinks “of course” we can’t fight Russia and China, so he’ll keep doing the “logical” thing and letting them seize territory.
But they won’t limit themselves to the countries where our treaty obligations are unclear, because we are the ultimate target.
Perhaps it’s beginning to dawn on us that Putin is acting crazy at this point, and he’s threatening military action against us.

Putin turns out to be a fool. He had what he wanted. Now after the initial exhilaration, he will find himself in a bloody quagmire that will not only return Russia to the grim poverty and isolation of the communist era but will ruin his country for many decades. He could not have made a worse decision.

Isn’t almost the entire Ukro Armed Forces deployed to the D and LPRs for purposes of subjugating them? In which case this should be over fairly quickly with a classic pincer from North, South and East.

This is being called “the Operation for the Denazification of Ukraine”
The Russians claim they have destroyed the Ukrainian navy and the Ukrainian air force.
They claim the Kulbakino military airfield where the Turkish drones were based has been destroyed.
They claim a significant part of Ukrainian arsenals have been destroyed by Russian precision weapons.
Putin called on the Ukrainian army to surrender. He promised a pardon to any soldier who lays down his arms. He said he holds the government of Ukraine responsible for all bloodshed.

I wonder how fortified Sevastopol is these days. It took the Germans months to knock it out.
Here’s my take on this. The fighting won’t last long. The missle attacks on Kiev and other attacks outside the regions in dispute are to scare Ukraine into not trying too hard to keep the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Europe needs Russia’s oil and gas too badly to cause Russia very much trouble. The U.S has no stomach for a fight there. In the end Ukraine gets new borders and Russia weathers whatever sanctions are put on them. Putin is troublesome but he’s no Hitler. He won’t push this far enough to cause a wider war.
And all of Free Republics pro Putin/Xi/Khamenei allied Kremlin mouthpiece’s can finally celebrate!
