Toomey: ‘Cautiously’ Optimistic About ‘Common Sense’ Gun Bill that Protects Second Amendment Rights
Breitbart ^ | 06/06/2022 | Trent Baker

On Monday, Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) said he was “cautiously” optimistic about getting “common sense” gun legislation passed to prevent future mass shootings.

Toomey acknowledged on Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom” that there was no way to stop every mass killing, but he said he wanted to “make it more difficult” for the mentally ill and dangerous criminals to obtain a weapon to go forward with a deadly attack.

It is impossible to pass a gun control law that does not “infringe” against the 2nd Amendment. Every current gun control law in effect now “infringes” upon the 2nd Amendment.

The founding fathers were so wise and followed the divine guidance that God poured upon them as they pondered carefully over each and every word in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

This is why they chose the word arms instead of using musket or another contemporaneous name for a particular firearm. Somehow they knew that the musket would someday no longer be the firearm of choice. Their choice of words allowed for the future changes that perhaps they knew were forthcoming.

Yes, Joe Biden, you could buy a cannon then, and you can buy a weapon of war today.

Why doesn’t every person that is for gun control place a sign in their front yard or on their front door announcing that their premise is a GUN FREE ZONE so the criminals will choose their homes and leave the rest of us alone.

As always. It’s the only thing that they can be counted on.

I’m not. We’ve already given too much ground. We need to take back some things that were given away to the gun grabbers in their past gun grabs.

“common sense”

Head for the hills. A phrase used to marginalize those who don't agree with such measures.

I’m sure posting on FR would be enough to make the “dangerous” list. Homophobic, xenophobic, anti-government, anti-criminal, pro-freedom, America First, etc. Dangerous red flag thought crimes.

There is one Common Sense change that would stop at least 75% of the mass shootings that I think most, if not all, MAGA patriots would be behind:

Tear up the FBI/CIA into a thousand pieces, and scatter into the winds.

When Congress talks about a “common sense” solution to anything you can be sure it will be uncommon nonsense.

Huh ... I’d like to make it more difficult for the mentally ill, dangerous criminals, and professional politicians to get into Congress.

Seriously. What an idiot. When will GOP learn you never accept the premise of the rat argument. ANYTHING they want to do they’ll label as “common sense.”

“Give an inch, and you never get it back. What is so hard to grasp about that?”

What Toomey and the four other GOP Senators (Burr, Portman, Shelby, Blunt) retiring this year understand is the rewards (consulting gigs, corporate board seats, speaking fees, lobbying assignments, and academic appointments) they can look forward to if they behave properly over the next few months. They no longer have to answer to the voters so now’s the time they use their last votes to feather their nests in retirement. Likely there are a few more Republicans planning to retire in 2024 and 2026, but not yet announced, who may be tempted to cash in on the gun bill. Of course Romney, Graham, Collins, and Murkowski can always be counted on to be “bipartisan” on certain bills. We may see 10 or more GOP Senators vote for gun control.

Common sense would be enforcing existing laws.

How they plan to do it with “Common sense” gun laws.

From 1976.

Nelson T. ‘Pete’ Shields
Founder of Handgun Control, Inc.(Now the Brady Center)

“I’m convinced that we have to have federal legislation to build on. We’re going to have to take one step at a time, and the first step is necessarily — given the political realities — going to be very modest.

Of course, it’s true that politicians will then go home and say, ‘This is a great law. The problem is solved.’ And it’s also true that such statements will tend to defuse the gun-control issue for a time.

So then we’ll have to strengthen that law, and then again to strengthen that law, and maybe again and again. Right now, though, we’d be satisfied not with half a loaf but with a slice. Our ultimate goal — total control of handguns in the United States — is going to take time.

My estimate is from seven to ten years. The problem is to slow down the increasing number of handguns sold in this country. The second problem is to get them all registered. And the final problem is to make the possession of all handguns and all handgun ammunition — except for the military, policemen, licensed security guards, licensed sporting clubs, and licensed gun collectors — TOTALLY ILLEGAL.”

-Pete Shields, Chairman and founder, Handgun Control Inc., “A Reporter At Large: Handguns,” The New Yorker, July 26, 1976, 57-58

“Yes, I’m for an outright ban [on handguns].”

-Pete Shields, Chairman emeritus, Handgun Control, Inc., 60 Minutes interview

HCI, around 1984, suddenly made a grab for the semi-auto rifles and shotguns, and missed But they showed their hand. As a result all gun owners know we are always up against a stacked deck.

The fact that nothing is leaking out from the GOP should scare the hell out of you.

They finally are going to cave in the gun control freaks and commies.
