Oberlin racks up millions in interest after failing to fork over cash owed to bakery smeared as racist

Ohio’s Oberlin college is now on the hook for more than $4 million in interest fees, after it failed to pay out the more than $30 million owed for libel damages to a local bakery.

Oberlin’s problems started in 2016, when a former dean at the school promoted claims that the family-run bakery was “racist” after an altercation between an employee and three black students from the college. For some inexplicable reason, leftists absolutely hate local bakeries, and go out of their way to destroy them.

In this case, Gibson’s Bakery took the matter to court, and was awarded a $31.6 million judgment in 2019. That amount has increased to over $36 million, which accounts for the $4,300-per-day interest that has accumulated over the years that the college has refused to pay. Now, according to the local newspaper The Chronicle, the Gibson family is demanding that the college quit screwing around and pay up.

I wonder if they’ll go back to court with another round of litigation to argue that they shouldn’t have to pay the interest because the combined sum exceeds the cap on liability awards. Futile, but it would stretch out the process some more, and allow them to keep up the fiction that “the matter is still the subject of active litigation” or some such.

Time for the courts to start seizing Oberlin’s assets and auctioning them off to pay off their judgment.

In a sane world, that should be how it happens, but we don’t live in a sane world. I question, whether these slime bags will ever pay a dime to the bakers.

It’s time for the property deed for Oberlin College to be turned over to the Gibsons. Enough is enough.

I think the college will openly delay this...but some judge is likely to give them some paperwork to go and seize 25-percent of the value...to impress upon the college the issue.

Part of this problem may be that the college doesn’t have the ‘cash’ to pay it off.

receiving taxpayer dollars to pontificate about the virtues of communism in front of a captive audience (students) doesn’t count as an honest job? /s

Meanwhile, Meredith Raimondo, the real villain who set the mob on the Gibsons is Vice President for Student Affairs at Oglethorpe University. I guess bankrupting Oberon is not a career ending incident.

Um, the collected fines would go to the state, not the Gibsons.

SO typical of liberal democrats to skip out of paying what THEY owe while demanding everyone else must. Isn’t it time that radical elitist democrats are made to pay up? Everywhere?

Ohio’s Supreme Court is unreliable, so anything is still possible. Oberlin has long been a malignant growth in the state but has had a lot of support from unlikely places.
