The way to really make E-Verify work
American Thinker ^ | September 11, 2022 | Charles Sullivan

The federal E-Verify program has an online searchable database showing the businesses with at least five employees who have gone to the trouble to make certain that they are not employing illegal aliens. These businesses need to be rewarded.

The E-Verify program is a largely voluntary employment verification program that was instituted in the 1990s. At the federal level, it is mandatory for some federal contractors and sub-contractors. At the state and local levels, states and their political subdivisions may also use the program. Currently, there are four states — AL, AZ, MS, and SC — who require that all employers E-Verify all employees. There are eighteen other states that require e-verification of some employees. ...

One of the most powerful yet underutilized tools of the E-Verify program is a searchable database of employers who are in compliance with the program. If used more, it would be a powerful tool in controlling the scourge of illegal aliens being employed in the country instead of U.S. citizens or legally resident aliens. Here are some examples of how the database could be used.

***

Whether it be a mortgage or a car purchase, be sure to notify companies that you did not use that the reason you did not patronize their business was their failure to E-Verify. Hopefully, we can start a movement.

As an addendum, the things that can be done with the database are almost limitless. For New Mexico, I checked to see how many counties were E-Verifying and discovered only 11 of 33. ...

Gotta offer some carrots along with the stick:

0.1% financing rate reduction for those who e-verify;

“some” net profits tax reduction for those who e-verify;

Folks “should” “do the right thing” but money talks.

The ability to track people is almost unlimited in today's computerized world. E-verify has always been an ineffectual system since it began and the only reason for that is it's by design, the government doesn't want it to work. Try not paying taxes on $200 in interest income and see how quickly the IRS calls you on it. The bill will show up in your mailbox quickly. However, a chicken processing plant in Arkansas can operate openly staffed with 90% illegal aliens for years without any government official seeming to notice. The government can locate you by your cell phone within minutes if you're being sought, but 40 million illegal aliens somehow can disappear into the U.S. without being found? It doesn't add up and the only reason they can't find them is because the government wants them here. Getting them to leave would be simple, aggressively pursue and fine every employer who is found employing an illegal alien $50,000 for every offense. The jobs for them would disappear overnight and they would leave.

E-Verify doesn't work because it's designed NOT to work.

DREAMers are still here. Are they E-Verified?

No, the first challenge is that E-Verify needs to be used by all employers, and required to use it on their existing employees, not just new ones. Let’s root out the illegals that are already in the workplace.

A chart showing how the three game elements of "Rock-paper-scissors" interact.

Rock paper scissors (also known by other orderings of the three items, with "rock" sometimes being called "stone," or as Rochambeau, roshambo, or ro-sham-bo)[1][2][3] is a hand game originating from China, usually played between two people, in which each player simultaneously forms one of three shapes with an outstretched hand. These shapes are "rock" (a closed fist), "paper" (a flat hand), and "scissors" (a fist with the index finger and middle finger extended, forming a V). "Scissors" is identical to the two-fingered V sign (also indicating "victory" or "peace") except that it is pointed horizontally instead of being held upright in the air.

The name Rochambeau, sometimes spelled roshambo or ro-sham-bo and used mainly in the Western United States, is widely believed to be a reference to Count Rochambeau, who, according to a widespread legend, played the game during the American Revolutionary War. This legend is clearly untrue as all evidence points to the game first becoming known in the United States no sooner than sometime during the 1930s.[7][8] It is unclear why exactly this name ended up being associated with the game...

For me, as an employer, it’s just another time wasting compliance activity. Illegals are extremely easy to avoid hiring if you have two functioning brain cells.

Employers hire illegals intentionally because they want to.

It’s intended to burden small employers while allowing large corporations to do what they want. And as always, enforcement is biased and used to silence critics.

It's all about greed. Profits regardless of consequences.

While someone is trying to get EVerify to work, how about someone go into the SS database and see how many different employees are using the same SS Number. Verify that number and if the person is still alive and then pay each company a visit to interview the employee using that SS number.

Back in the 90’s, when AZ made E-Verify mandatory, I became the “Authorized E-Verify Officer”.
As I recall you couldn’t verify someone until they were hired. If they came back “dirty” then they had a month to file an appeal. You pretty much couldn’t fire them until the appeal process worked it’s way through the system. (Even though AZ is an “at will” state.)
You could not check existing employees. And all your hiring records could be inspected at any time. (Though they never were.)
About the only advantage to the employer was you weren’t liable for anyone that had been run through E-Verify being an illegal.

I still have paperwork somewhere explaining how E-Verify worked & how to use it.

EMPLOYERS were being CHARGED by the FEDS for the service-—and IIRC, it wasn’t exactly cheap.

Also-—When employers get a NON-Match SS notice from Social Security Admin-—going to the employee will get you a new W-4-—with the last names switched-—

Gomez-Sanchez becomes Sanchez-Gomez-—and illegal buys another 6-18 months before it trips him up...

Then-—OFF to another employer & the cycle starts all over.

Was a payroll supervisor in my past working years, and dealt with it all the time.

My idea is to treat a job site with Illegals like a drug operation. Confiscate everything from the biggest dozer to the smallest wheelbarrow and sell them at auction. One time and no employer will touch them, hell, they’ll be the ones to call INS.

IRS should not allow an employer to have any expense deduction for the labor cost of any employee when citizenship has not been verified. The same should be true foe landlords and their tenants.

e-Verify is one important plank in real immigration reform.

The Deplorables want a Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement bill, missing since 1986 ONE TIME amnesty. Since that amnesty was granted already, a second amnesty is off the table. What remains is the enforcement the Democrats have disallowed since then.

The List of Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement, missing since 1986 goes like this -
1) southern barrier;
2) require eVerify to hire;
3) end all chain migration;
4) birthright per Minor v. Happersett (plural parents);
5) end work visas;
6) 40-year moratorium on all new applications for citizenship (to allow workplace automation effects on downsizing population);
7) Set up an illegal aliens’ victim restitution fund from tax on remittances. Use tax on remittances to replenish Social Security account.

Enactment of these provisions will motivate illegal aliens to SELF-deport, and remove colonizadors from our welfare rolls.

E-Verify doesn't work because it's designed NOT to work.

Not 'designed', but 'implemented' not to work.

And we need to pass fed law that states cannot license drivers who are not U.S. citizens. Coincidentally, the states cannot provide ID for non-US citizens. Easy to check with an implemented e-Verify.
