The average ethanol plant chuffed out 1,187 metric tons of carbon emissions per million gallons of fuel capacity in 2020, the latest year data is available. The average oil refinery, by contrast, produced 533 metric tons of carbon.

Regardless, there is virtually NO CO2 in the atmosphere.

I drive by ethanol only corn crops all the time. Not edible either.

"Field corn" is cattle feed, not the same as the "sweet corn" which we eat.

The "ethanol only" corn is fermented and the expended mash is dried and sold as a livestock feed. The mash actually has more nutritional value than the unprocessed corn.

So they get two products from the same "feed stock".

Anything that burns our food supply is something that bureaucrats are all for.

We don't eat field corn. It's not our "food supply".

I remember when you could store gas over the winter with no problems at all for using the next spring.

You still can, as long as you seal the tank.

I only put REC-90 (Non-Ethanol) gasoline in the fuel tank of my
2008 Ford F-150 pickup truck.

“PRIG restores old gas.”

But at what additional carbon footprint to make it, deliver it, and use it?

When there was a time it was not even needed unless gas was a couple years old.

I used to fire up cars that had sit for two years and the gas still burned fine on the way to the station to get more fresh gas.

With gas alone you can’t do this anymore...

So you think I am so stupid I didn’t know that “There was a time when it was not needed at all?”

That was then. This is now.

See the difference?

There is no way to completely seal a tank. Just like with tires, the alcohol molecules will leak between the gasket(s) molecules. This is why they pushed Nitrogen for tires, The molecules are larger than rubber molecules and cannot go around them. So they maintain pressure longer. Same with gasket materials.

Of course not. I am just raising the flaw and point in their (cleaner) argument when additives which increase the base carbon footprint are required.

Uhmmmm..... yes, we do. Corn is in everything. Corn starch, corn oil, corn meal, corn flour, corn silage, corn feed, beer, whiskey, cereals, plastics, Styrofoam, and like a gazillion other food, animal feed, and packaging uses.

Farmers ain't stupid enough to plant a crop propped up by fuel consumption.

Your claim is as clueless as claiming we don't eat soybeans or peanuts. Yes we do.

Per capita each person in the United States consumes 36.5 pounds of corn per year on food uses of corn. That's like 150 pounds per household. 12 pounds per month.

Everything they do is meant to do the opposite of what they claim.

“But at what additional carbon footprint to make it, deliver it and use it?”

PRIG is a concentrate, comes in a 32 oz. bottle that treats 512 gallons, carbon footprint is a negative because it improves combustion. Petroleum industry has been using it for many years before becoming available to the consumer. Shipping is free to Amazon Prime and some sellers on e-bay.

Absolutely! You are absolutely right! I have witnessed at least twenty huge flaws in my life of observing this environmental madness.

Starting with the Spotted Owl and Desert Tortoise (reasons) back in the 70s that led up to all this we are dealing with now!

I have the data to prove it... They never go back and reassess it to see if it works or not. They just pile on ten more flawed laws and regulations.

Because... It is not about the environment... It is all about money skimming and funding.

So the cost to make it, deliver it, and use it even though you should not have to use it is zero carbon?

Nope... Not falling for it. Pure fantasy argument that denies real world cause and effect.

How much carbon did you spew going down to the store to get it?

I store my riding mower in the garage. I use E10 gas in it. It always starts up in the spring, even though I do not use Stabil or drain the fuel.

People who store their OPE outdoors where it gets rained and snowed on may have worse results...

Farmers ain't stupid enough to plant a crop propped up by fuel consumption.

It's propped up by government subsidies, just like wind and solar....and no, they aren't stupid.

Your claim is as clueless as claiming we don't eat soybeans or peanuts. Yes we do.

Yes we do, and there are thousands of varieties of corn. The farmers do a great job of producing them for all purposes.

My information comes straight from a Midwest beef grower who also has hundreds of acres of crop.

More song birds and bats than condors and eagles of all stripes combined. Bats who are insect eaters of mosquitoes, flies, no seeums etc. Bats are not even counted. nor is any dead winged critter in the brush or over the property lines.
