The Dominican Republic is building a 13-foot-high border wall — set to be the second-longest border wall in the Americas — in the hopes of ending waves of illegal immigration from Haiti.
The government of the Dominican Republic began building the border wall in February to put a halt to illegal immigration from Haiti, which citizens have said is overwhelming their small communities, depressing wages, and undercutting their quality of life.
The concrete and steel wall, when finished, will stand 13 feet tall, and stretch just over 100 miles. The only other existing border wall in the Americas that is longer is the United States-Mexico border wall.
One citizen of the Dominican Republic told Bloomberg that he is tired of Haitians overwhelming his small hometown and leaving trash along the streets:

Seems border walls are becoming popular. There was an article earlier today about Finland building a border wall to stop Russian immigration.
Frankly I’m surprised DR hadn’t done this years ago.. They and Haiti are two different worlds sitting side by side.

So, there is one island with two countries on it.
One Island country/side is clean, raises food and conducts trading with other country, and the people living on that side of the island are proud and hard working people.
The other side of the island looks like the worse slum in Africa or America. The few ambitious people on that island want to leave and go to to the good side of the island.

But, but, but....I thought that Haiti was turned into a paradise with the billions of tax dollars sent there and managed by the Clinton Foundation!

The problem is that there are too many Haitians for that small area.
It is probably because until the end of the 17th Century, the whole island belonged to Spain-but the part that is now Haiti was ceded to France to settle their disagreement-the French brought over lots of slaves to work their sugar plantations and that came back to bite them in the ass during/after the French revolution when the slaves took over in Haiti-and to this day, they speak French and African creole, many are criminals, lazy and expect handouts from every country in the world-plus the government is totally corrupt-assassinates political rivals and the dominant religion is voodoo. The other side of the island, the DR does pretty well-no president who assassinates rivals, the dominant religion is Catholic Christian, not voodoo, Spanish is the dominant language, etc and the people are mostly hard working, industrious and not criminals. The French probably should have cut their own sugarcane-might have worked out better for them...
Being of Hispanic ancestry, I suppose I may be a bit partial to the DR, but facts are facts...
