ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The City of Rochester is providing financial assistance for eligible homeowners as part of its Owner-Occupant Roofing Program. There is $2 million available for approximately 80 homes. Eligible homeowners may receive up to $35,000 for a single-family home and $45,000 for a two-family home.
The assistance is for roofing repairs or replacement and other related repairs such as gutters and downspouts, chimney repairs, roof flashing, soffits and venting. Detached garage roofs are not eligible. Applicants must be an owner-occupant of a one- or two-family residential property in the city of Rochester, and must live in the home for no less than five years after completion of repairs.
“The City’s Owner-Occupant Roofing Program is a critical resource for our lower-income households as heating costs are expected to significantly increase this winter,” said Mayor Malik D. Evans. “It can be a lifeline for those facing the costly roof replacements and repairs. The City remains committed to strengthening neighborhoods by improving the equitable distribution of assistance and giving working families the support they need.”
The household income of eligible homeowners cannot exceed 80 percent of the area median income. The calculation will include the incomes of all occupants 18 years of age and older from all sources, including, but not limited to employment, public assistance, social security, retirement benefits, disability or unemployment benefits.
Interested homeowners are invited to pick up and submit a pre-application at their nearest Neighborhood Service Center (NSC) office until Friday, Nov. 18.
A drawing will be held at each of the four NSC offices at 2 p.m., Wed., Nov. 30, when 20 pre-applications will be selected at each NSC office through a lottery. Selected property owners will be notified in writing to complete the program application.
NSC office locations and phone numbers are below:
Northeast: 500 Norton St., 428-7660; Southeast: 320 N. Goodman St., Suite 209, 428-7640; Northwest: 400 Dewey Ave., 428-7620; Southwest: 923 Genesee St., 428-7630.
$35,000 for a roof is ludicrous. I had standing seam metal roof installed for less than $25,000.
Roofers charge big bucks now for roofing.
Probably on houses that aren’t even worth that much.
I am a roofing contractor in Rochester and have never come across a residential single-family home that warranted a $35k roof replacement. These grants are nothing more than slush funds run by idiots in the building departments
“Roofers charge big bucks now for roofing.”
And they use illegals for labor which are living off of the American taxpayer and pocketing the money.
Mexicans will fare well. They have pretty much taken over the roofing business. Most of their labor is illegal, and lots of their income is exported.
What percentage of home ownership does the city retain?
The camel says, “Invite me into the tent.”
If you can't afford a roof when you need it, you can't afford a house.
And city roofs are only like 24 x 24
If you’re white, don’t bother applying.
“I believe that if a homeowner needs a roof, he should pay for it himself.”
Wow, aren’t you curmudgeonly! Depriving needy people of a roof. How cold hearted can you be?
The federal government should step in and provide Roof Loans. Then Biden can use the stroke of his pen in a couple years to wipe out all Roof Debt. Why should people be expected to repay the roof contract they signed?
A lucky 80 local Democrat canvassers, ballot fixers and friends of the Mayor will be eligible.
In the interest of public health and safety, the roofers should be required to take all the necessary shingles vaccine and boosters in order to remain in their employed capacity.
So lets say you have a two story 2500 square foot house with multiple valleys. There are two layers of asphalt shingles over wooden shingles on a planked roof. You need to strip all the shingles and install sheathing over the planks and then install new shingles/ Ice Guard. 12/7 roof pitch. What would you charge?
Depends where you live!
Wow! We just paid $12,500. That price is high in the article. Bet NY makes disposing of shingles very difficult and that is why the price is so high.
I am a roofer and even with all you have listed..a thousand a square would be a gravy job for me....The profit alone would allow me to bank 10K...assuming your in Rochester and going to get 35K...we could each pocket an additional 5...CALL ME,lol
That and the union cronies that will get the jobs.
