A modest proposal to regulate assault-style weapons — again(barf alert)
The Hill ^ | 3 mar 2023 | J. Brian Atwood

(snip)

Gun advocates do not argue that these weapons are needed for hunting. Hunters are sportsmen and -women. During certain seasons, many of them are happy to use a bow and arrow; shooting multiple rounds at a deer isn’t a sport.

Some gun owners talk about the thrill of using assault-style weapons and AR-15-style rifles for target practice. In fact, if gun advocates wish to argue that assault-style weapons are now in “common use,” that use is most likely at a rifle range.

And therein lies a modest proposal: Allow these dangerous weapons to be used only at secure ranges where they can be stored and used safely.

It is past time that “common sense” gun safety legislation be enacted as called for by President Biden. We have seen enough mass shootings made easier with weapons that shoot multiple rounds — in schools, shopping centers, churches and bars. The American people have made it clear in poll after poll that they want Congress to act.

Most hunters don’t fire several shots at a deer

The prey is long gone after the first “pew”

If you are forced to let them be kept at a government approved facility (for a fee, of course), that is hardly the right to KEEP and bear arms.

Hog hunting is different. Several quick shots are often needed to shoot multiple hogs gathered together. I’ve even seen hunters shoot hogs from helicopters with AR style rifles.

For too long Americans have been senselessly killed and injured in the carnage of collisions in traffic on the streets.

A modest proposal to regulate 10-speeed bicycles.

Some bicycle owners talk about the thrill of using 10-speed bicycles for racing. In fact, if bike advocates wish to argue that racing 10-speed bicycles is now “common use,” that use is most likely at a race track.

And therein lies a modest proposal: Allow these dangerous vehicles to be used only at secure velodromes where they can be stored and used safely.

Keep your mitts off our guns.

Which other Constitutional Amendments do you wish to start
scratching away at? Race? Equal rights? Other civil
rights issues?

If you’re going to continue to chop away at an Amendment that
is important to most of us, let’s start readdressing every
amendment. Let’s see who backs down first.

In his 2000 book “The America We Deserve,” Donald Trump said he supports a ban on assault weapons.

“I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I also support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun,” Mr. Trump wrote.

None of these proposals are modest and none are “common sense”

Its about disarming law abiding people in small increments, in the end adding up to total disarmament.

These same people destroy and ridicule common sense, about men, women, relationships, welfare, murder and dealing with criminals properly

KMA! I stand with the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights against you gun stealing, Nazi Dung Beetles. You “Recreational drug addicts” aren’t required to store your “recreational” drugs in a hospital or pharmacy. Again. KMA!

Here is my common sense solution...
Enforce the existing laws...
When someone is arrested for a violent crime while in possession of a firearm, lock them up...deny them bail and prosecute them..

Let’s try this for a while...

I will make a counter proposal. No one that has ever claimed or voted Democrat should be allowed to own a firearm.

In the deadliest mass murders of US civilians it has been agents of the US government doing the shooting.

An AR15 is in the trunk of the majority of police cruisers in the US because it is the best personal defense weapon (for the price) that there is.

So, no.

No doubt they would “allow” you to check your own property out temporarily if you proved “need” and received permission from the government. They aren’t unreasonable people, after all. (Do I really need the /sarc?)
