There are cheaper options with the same or better quality out there. And you don't then support a woke company
I was using Gillette razors when they ran that ad and abruptly stopped buying them. Still don’t and never will again.
This is beyond insanity. From company to company, ad to ad, numerous examples of how going woke, of forcing change of male products to conform to this insane woke movement, from failure to failure, each company doubles down.
I haven’t used there products for decades. I use an English safety razor with insanely sharp Japanese blades.
I use teo types
1. A straight razor using Feather, Japanese made razor blades.
2. A house brand of lidl that makes 4 blade razors. You could find similar stuff at Costco
But mostly I use the straight double edged razor blades.
This is a total lie.
I completely stopped using all Gillette products and I know I’m not alone.
I was a regular customer until the ad. Never since.
At the time of the toxic masculinity ads, I used Gillette products, and had for decades.
Then, I easily found alternatives to Gillette, and by company association, all P and G products.
I don't expect a major brand shift from low-info shoppers.
P and G will never notice my shift from their brands. For me, however, it's a matter of principle. I don't reward companies that hate traditional American values.
I used their products from around age 17 until they ran their racist ads and pervert ads. Dropped 'em like a turd. Use Schick, now. No, Gillette doesn't own them.
“4) the CFO was lying about its sales. And after looking at the statistics around parent company P&G’s stocks, we’re inclined to believe the latter.
According to acclaimed statistician Georgi Georgiev, the market share in P&G’s blades and razor category in fact did decline in 2019 after the release of the toxic masculinity advertisement. He reports that this was the biggest change ever and speculates the dip was largely due to YouTube and other reastions on social media. In the light of this, it’s hard to believe Gillette’s sales were unaffected by the controversy. “
It did have an effect-entire new competitors exist because of the campaign- as the author believes that the one guy who said otherwise was lying.
Gillette didn’t have any competitors. But in the years since, it’s US market share has fallen 30%.
I stopped shaving.
If you read the article, the assertion that Gillette didn’t lose business is based solely on the testimony of Proctor and Gamble’s chief financial officer.
I used to use Gillette products, but stopped after that ridiculous ad.
“How many freepers still use Gillette products?”
Not me. I grew a beard during the pandemic so I don’t need ‘em anymore.
Count me as another person who stopped using Gillette cold turkey when they came out with the woke ads. I moved to using Wilkinson. I have a hard time believing Gillette did not suffer a bit from that ad campaign…they are such a big company that they can move numbers around from other products to make it look like they were unaffected.
I haven’t used Gillette products for decades. I’m basically too cheap. I buy either three blade or five blade store-brand disposable razors. They work for me for a rather long time if I don’t skip days shaving. If I let my beard grow over the weekend, it seems to severely dull the blades.
I went with a safety razor and blades. For the same price as one Gillette refill, I can shave for the next six years if I change the blade weekly.
I haven't cut my hair since a few months when this scamdemic started because Great Clips required wearing a mask when we were walking around all over town with no lockdown and no mask.
My wife hates the mountain man look so I trimmed my beard about a month ago but only used my clippers to get reasonably close on my neck.
I just looked in the medicine cabinet and found a 25 year old Gillette Mach 3 that I haven't used in a month of Sundays, so I tossed it. The razor I would use, if I ever do, is a Schick combo trimmer and blade.
