The GOP Can Save Itself if Trump Runs, Then Loses the Election
Yahoo News ^ | 4/14/23 | Matt Lewis

Recently, I’ve come to terms with the likelihood that Donald Trump will (gulp!) be the Republican presidential nominee, again. That’s right, it may only be April, but I’ve entered the “Jesus Take The Wheel” stage for the 2024 campaign.

Call it naive wishcasting, but until recently, I thought that Ron DeSantis might help us avoid this very situation. But the last month or so has not gone well. DeSantis’ rocky rollout (technically, he still hasn’t entered the race), coupled with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s indictment, have elevated Trump to clear frontrunner status.

Trump Wants to Turn His Most Toxic Baggage Into Primary Gold

While there are a million reasons to fear Trump winning the Republican nomination, I am comforting myself by the fact that there could be a silver lining: If the goal is to truly eradicate Trumpism, the most obvious method is for Trump to win the Republican nomination, and then (this part is important) he must be decisively defeated.

It has been observed that political parties do not change until they have endured multiple losses. If that is true of normal parties, it is doubly true of a MAGA movement headed by Donald Trump.

As a Never Trump conservative, I never wanted to have to come to grips with this scenario. I would love for someone to wrest control of the GOP from Trump, but it is looking increasingly unlikely that Republicans are capable of stopping Trump from once again winning their presidential nomination.

“ I fear Trump has too much to lose (his companies) to make that many waves. ”

Look, I’m 3 years younger than Trump and I must confess, big new, transformative ideas are a bit of a struggle in the fourth quarter of life. Not sure he’s afraid of loss - in fact, I doubt it - but the founders were mostly young and could be activated by a vision of the future - which is closed to guys at 75+.

It has been observed that political parties do not change until they have endured multiple losses.

That’s never worked for the democrat party look who they put in office.

All the more reason for Trump to win MAGA.

MAGA = Deleted Marxism

I just love the fact that democrats and never-Trump Republicans are so free with their advice to conservatives as to who and who not is “electable” in 2024. They really seem to have conservatives best interests at heart when it comes to who would be best to implement conservative policies.

The letter after the name means jack anymore.

The only reason political parties still exist is to give voters the illusion of choice.

A pol is either loyal to our former republic or to Deep State.

It’s easy to see who still scares the **** outta Deep State.

We need to secure our elections and vote for that guy.

It pains me to see people on Free Republic trying so hard to
“Seal The Steal” of 2020.
If they “win”, there will be a war of extermination,
by all sides.
Hiding Hunter’s Laptop alone proves the Steal was Real.
Letting them “Keep the Diamonds” ends badly for everyone.

More "win by losing" advice from liberals?

It's right on schedule.

You RINOs are doomed. Your faction is decidedly the minority and has steadily been losing the power struggle for control over the Republican party...

* * *

I'd like to believe, as you say, that the RINOs are doomed.

But I think we need to consider defeating the RINOs at both the national, but also State level.

When a lived in Georgia a short time ago, I joined the local mid-sized city Republican party right after the 2020 election. And I was surprised how the RINOs paid mere lip service to MAGA. In fact, the name of Trump was hardly ever talked about in local meetings.

So this RINO-ruled state of Georgia with the corrupt Brian the UnKempt RINO in the governor's chair doesn't want MAGA people coming in to disrupt their club.

And it's a key reason why Georgia was flipped to a Red State in the 2020 elections. And how many other States with Republican governors are just as corrupt and determined to stop MAGA in its tracks?
