Japan has always been much smaller than America, (was) nowhere near as industrialized as America, non-nuclear, and had a MUCH smaller population than America.
China is physically the same size as America (depends on who you check with) China is now MORE industrialized than America, China is now rapidly increasing their nuclear arms (and incidentally does NOT belong to an Arms Control limitation ) though to be fair at the moment neither do we or Russia.
Their population is huge (4 or 5 times ours) and their Navy now is bigger than ours. Their latest carrier is now similar to ours. And their Navy is growing much faster than ours.
ZERO similarity.
Though, last time, even Japan gave us one heck of a scare.
Right now we are rapidly losing the edge we had.
EVERYONE on our side, has been building up China for the last 30 years.
