A suburb of Chicago has become the first to start paying reparations to qualifying black residents in what is being seen as “a test run for the whole country.”
The city of Evanston has already paid 16 locals from a $10 million package first approved in 2019, the Evanston RoundTable said Monday.
By the end of the year, the reparations committee expects to have paid $25,000 each to 140 qualifying residents in the city of about 75,000, officials also told the Wall Street Journal.
Those qualifying had to be at least 18 and living in the city between 1919 and 1969, when the city passed a fair-housing ordinance, the WSJ said.
The $10 million fund was initially supposed to come from tax cash from legal marijuana sales. When that proved too slow, the council agreed to allot real estate transfer tax money from properties worth more than $1 million.
So far, just under $1.2 million has been gathered for it, Tasheik Kerr, assistant to the city manager, told a meeting last week.

I figured it meant the one drop rule, or at least he or she had to be approved by the man.
Is there anyone out there taking these racist payouts to court? You can’t find any government action that is more racist than this.
Evanston, IL is the start of the “North Shore” (high end) group of suburbs along Lake Michigan immediately north of Chicago. Residential real estate taxes are high in that town, especially since Northwestern University is property tax-exempt (their estimated share would be about $6m a year if they were to pay). An ultra-liberal town with a long history of bleeding heart activities. No surprise on this initiative; as it gets worse, those with money will start to evaporate and the rest, you already know. Illinois, the place where common sense and sanity has long left and the unions, parasites of all kinds and ages, flourish. Another part of Illinois where people are quietly leaving the state.
What could possibly go wrong?
Hope those 140 recipients don’t have their names and addresses published.
They likely to get unreparated.

And yes, the reparations BS pisses me off.
Perhaps they're justifying it on segregation. A slippery slope. I thought it was supposedly about slavery.
Maybe it’s time to start selling drugs now, I bet the cartels are happy about this. I even have a New Name for this program:
