Trump: Christie cost Romney chance at White House
The Hill ^ | 07/26/2023 | JARED GANS

Former President Trump accused his GOP presidential primary opponent Chris Christie of costing 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney a chance at winning the presidency because of his collaboration with then-President Obama.

Trump said in a Truth Social post Tuesday that Christie, who was serving as the governor of New Jersey at the time, was “star struck” with Obama while they oversaw the state’s recovery from Hurricane Sandy. The hurricane, which overall caused billions of dollars of damage and killed hundreds inside and out of the United States, made landfall in late October 2012, just before the general election.

Romney did that on his own.....anyone that watched the dynamic between his 1st debate with obama and the rest knows that.....it was unbelievably obvious he was throwing the game.

I don’t think Mitt was in it to win it at the time. Republicans put him up as designated loser

Obama let Christie off the hook for his criminal blockage of interstate traffic in the George Washington Bridge fiasco. Christie broke Federal laws with that stunt. Christie then repaid Obama by publicly hugging him three weeks prior to the election. Obama didn’t need Christie’s hug . He had Romney at his feet. Imagine that Obama’s people let Romney know that they knew all about the Romney sons corruption in the Ukraine.

“”””When I voted for magic undies I wanted to barf””””

I didn’t vote for him but now I live in a state where I don’t have that luxury, I dread the forced voting choices I will have to make at times in the future.

I voted for the jerk once in a primary (McCain?) When I got home and decided to watch the returns, they announced on the news that the moron had cancelled his campaign. I’ll never vote for the jerk again.

Romney was convincingly defeated.

A photo of Christie fawning over Obama changed very few minds.

Romney lost the popular vote by 4%.

Romney got crushed in the Electoral College, 332-206.

Romney lost two essential GOP states - Florida and Ohio.

Uh -- no.

The GWB fiasco took place in September 2013 -- a couple of months before Christie's re-election bid.

How could Obama repay him in October 2012 for something that didn't happen until 11 months later?

Romney had no chance.

The GOPe put him up as the sacrificial lamb, so that they could elect their REAL choice - Barack the Magic Negro!

Trump is not wrong. It’s true Romney took a dive at the 2nd debate. Christie’s walk on the beach with Obongo the weekend before the election moved a lot of swing voters. He praised Obongo 2 days before the election and Barack moved from 2 points down to 3 points up.

He is right

Go look at the exit polls from the time, Obama’s handling of Hurricane Sandy was a big reason many people voted for him.

As much as I can’t stand Christie, this is just another way for Trump to attack Christie, when if fact Romney failed for the same rason McCain did - he did not present a good plan competing with the sales job Obama was doing. THAT was not Christie’s fault.

Wrong again, Donald.

Romney cost Romney the chance. Romneycare stifled most GOP trust and enthusiasm. There were also some that would never vote for a Mormon. Small but significant.

Ironically, Romney (along w McCain and a few other GOP weaklings) helped put Trump in office. GOPers had had it with RINOs and squishes. (The other biggies were fear of Hillary and overconfidence by Dems.)
