Democrats Push 1,000 Percent Excise Tax on AR-15s
Breitbart ^ | 06Aug | Hawkins

Posted on 08/06/2023 11:28:00 AM PDT by qaz123

House Democrats introduced legislation Friday that would place a 1,000 percent excise tax on AR-15s and other firearms they refer to as “assault weapons.”

FOX News reported the tax would also apply to “high capacity” magazines.

Rep. Don Beyer (D) and 24 other Democrats are behind the tax which they also pushed last year.

The imposition would force the price of a $500 firearm to jump to $5,000 and “a weapon that normally costs $2,000 would force customers to pay more than $20,000.”

I am 100% convinced that the Democratic Party, as a whole, owns massive amounts of stock in the gun companies. They have to.

Just like every time they try to do something to Pres Trump it ends up with him getting even more support. Every time they run their mouths about guns and/or bans they drive gun sales through the roof.

I wish someone could do a study, although I think it would be impossible, to see who is buying ARs. I'd love to see how many first time buyers there are, especially people over 25 years old.

It’s bull crap. The courts have ruled that a tax must have raising revenue as it’s principal objective. It cannot be a tax if it’s purpose is to prevent a specific commercial activity.

Every few years, some one wants to put porn videos out of business by a similar taxation scheme. $500 rental fees, etc. Courts always shoot these schemes down.

So, when folks come to burn their houses, I hope it’s televised so that we can watch it again and again.

Actually, I hope that they try. May as well get this over with.

No, wait. That's not a bad idea. IF that same excise tax is applied to ALL such weapon purchases, and that the entire price of the firearm may not be paid for by government taxes — not a thin dime — then it might limit proliferation. The only people who are exempt from the excise tax are active-duty and reserve military.

The excise tax would specifically apply to SWAT law enforcement officers: they must pay the entire cost from their wages. And no far governments doing a “gross-up” to shift the burden to the taxpayer.

You don’t think they could get some ‘vulnerable’ Republicans to flip?

Either way, I didn’t post it to talk about taxes, the courts or a law. It’s just that every time they run their mouths about guns, gun sales go through the roof.

I think I saw a headline a week or so ago stating that there have been over 1,000,000 NICS checks every month for, at least, over a year(?). My bad, almost 4 years.

I’m going to contact My Senators and House representatives and ask them to present a Bill that imposes a 200,000,000.00% Tax on stupid bills that impede the U.S. Constitution and in particular impediment of the 1st and 2nd Amendments. Anyone in congress (see My Tagline) that votes for them are required to pay immediately in cash to their Constituents.

STUPID FU&$HEADS !!!!

I believe you are correct. I have had the same thoughts.

In the 1960s and 1970s the AR-15 was available but no one wanted them. Plastic, NOT ACCURATE, too small for deer, ugly.

Then when the democrats began to scream for a ban on them sales went up, Up, UP! Back in the early days probably just a few thousand sold. Now it is over 25 million.

I still would not trust a democrat! They will ban them if they get a chance. If they can get a ban to “stick” then they will return to their original targets of the 1960s and 70s, HANDGUNS!

The courts have ruled that a tax must have raising revenue as it’s principal objective.

That used to be important.

Nowadays, the Democrats can go shopping for a judge who will give them almost any ruling they want. Or they can simply ignore the court rulings and do what they wanted to do anyway. The plaintiffs will eventually run out of money, lawyers, and time for appeals or injunctions.

The Democrats are under no such limitations. And if they do get an adverse ruling, they simply try again by passing a new law, just slightly different from the old law.

We still have a lot of pretenses, but the rule-of-law is mostly gone. Our current political and social system are following in that direction.

Ping to the FreeRepublic RKBA interest list. I have resumed this task until FReeper PROCON gets his PC running again.

Same thing the dems tried to get passed last year. The left is always more than happy to ignore the real causes of crime (not 'gun crime'), and while enabling the real perpetrators, use every opportunity to attack the law-abiding. A nifty strategy that's been SOP for several decades.

Exactly right. They just keep fouling the other team until they finally win by default because no one will play against them anymore.

It is unconstitutional to tax guns. That is like a poll tax or taxing free speech.

Hopefully, this backfires and gets current restrictions lifted.
