Hundreds of military promotions are on hold as Republican senator demands end to abortion policy

WASHINGTON (AP) — Top defense officials are accusing Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville of jeopardizing America's national security with his hold on roughly 300 military promotions, raising the stakes in a clash over abortion policy that shows no signs of easing.

Tuberville brushed off the criticism, vowing he will not give in. “We're going to be in a holding pattern for a long time,” he said, if the Pentagon refuses to end its policy of paying for travel when a service member goes out of state to get an abortion or other reproductive care.

It's a classic Washington standoff with rippling effects across the country, placing the lives of servicemembers effectively on hold as they await what has traditionally been routine Senate approval for their promotions.

Frustration mounting, the secretaries of the Navy, Air Force and Army wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post this week saying Tuberville's efforts were not only unfair to the military leaders and their families but also “putting our national security at risk.”

They noted that three military branches — the Army, Navy and Marine Corps — have no Senate-confirmed chiefs in place. Those jobs are being performed without the full range of legal authorities necessary to make decisions that will sustain the U.S.'s military edge, they wrote.

Yea Tommy, keep it up.

I personally think they should cut flag officers by 50% across the military. Too much empire building, get back to the warfighters.

What’s another dozen or so 4-star generals to add to the pile?

If they want promotions, just stop illegally funding abortions.

This is jeopardizing national security?
Dude, the “Commander in Chief” LITERALLY is in bed with China and Ukraine.
You’re letting fatties, mentally-ill douchebags, and trannies enlist.
Our national security was already in the toilet.

Frankly, military brass that this Regime wants to promote should be fired en masse.

They don’t become generals, unless they are woke. Screw them.

There are so many disappointments when it comes to politicians these days. And there are so few pleasant surprises. Tommy Tuberville has been one of those rare pleasant surprises.

Yup.

Tommy Tuberville is doing the LORD’s work opposing them.

Every one of the people being “held up” and “suffering” by Tuberville is making well over $150k/year with good portions of their salaries and benefits tax free. If the “suffering” gets too bad, nearly all of them are also eligible to put in for retirement where they’ll immediately draw a pension above that of the average American’s working salary, many of them in their late 40s or early 50s with industry connections that will easily add a six figure executive position on top of that benefit.

We should be in zero wars right now. There should be zero urgency to push people through if there are bigger issues (like the military flaunting the law which was constitutionally passed) to deal with.

Just to clear, Tuberville does not have the power to hold up any nomination. He is only refusing to grant unanimous consent to rubber stamp POTUS’s nominations. The Senate can still vote on each nominee to approve it, and Schmuck Schumer is the Majority Leader who can bring them to a vote tomorrow, but has not done so. Why? It would be time-consuming and cut into the Senators’ five-hour work day and 4-day work week, plus it would take away the Dems’ narrative that is the Republicans who are being obstructionist and “endangering national security.” Not surprising that the leftist AP is parroting this lie.

I was Air Force from 2008-2015, something I learned early on after I got out of tech school is that officers, and sernior NCOs who made E-7 by age 30 are not to be trusted. A lot of officers tend to speak and act like politicians in some ways, and senior NCO’s who’ve climbed through the ranks fairly quickly will use you as a rung to help them climb the ladder.

I made Air Force E-7, at 35, in 1983. In fact, my date of rank, was 1 Sep 83, the same day the Russians shot down the Korean air liner. I knew someone on that aircraft, though I didn’t find out about it, till 1985.
My son went to OTS, and is now a Captain. He respects the enlisted force, since his dad was a Senior NCO. He says he tries not to pay too much attention to wokeness. All he wants to do is fly.
I retired at the earliest possible opportunity. The biggest complaint I had, was the poverty pay we got. For that matter, officers didn’t get paid that much better either. I guess it’s better now, but my retirement pay after 20 years, as a senior NCO, was $761 a month.

None of Biden’s woke officer candidates should be confirmed — even if he concedes the abortion issue just to get them burrowed into the military.
