DeSantis says Trump’s abortion remarks show ‘the danger’ in reelecting him

Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis says Donald Trump’s recent statements on the abortion issue show the former president’s “values” are out of step with Iowa GOP voters. Trump said during an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” that the six week abortion ban DeSantis signed into law this spring was a terrible mistake.

“Donald Trump may think it’s terrible. I think protecting babies with heartbeats is noble and just and I’m proud to have signed the heartbeat bill in Florida and I know Iowa has similar legislation,” DeSantis says. “I don’t know how you can even make the claim that you’re somehow prolife if you’re criticizing states for enacting protections for babies that have heartbeats.”

DeSantis made his comments during an interview with Radio Iowa. (Audio below)

DeSantis suggested Trump’s remarks are :a window” into how Trump’s 2024 campaign is diverting from the promises he made during the 2016 campaign. “And I think he’s changing in a way that is not consistent with the values of the people in Iowa,” DeSantis told Radio Iowa.

Trump also indicated during his “Meet the Press” interview that he’d negotiate a deal on abortion that’s acceptable to both sides. DeSantis said that’s “the danger” of returning Trump to the White House for a second term.

“I’ve given him credit for his accomplishments, whether it’s the court appointments, whether it’s the Abraham Accords…the deregulation and I think he does deserve credit for that, but anytime he did a deal with Democrats whether it was on budget, whether it was on the criminal justice ‘First Step Act,’ they ended up taking him to the cleaners,” DeSantis said. “I think if he’s going into this saying he’s going to make the Democrats happy with respect to right to life, I think all pro-lifers should know that he’s preparing to sell you out.”

Current Florida law bans most abortions after the 15th week of a pregnancy, but a court ruling this fall could let the six week abortion ban DeSantis signed this spring go into effect. Activists in Florida, on both sides of the abortion issue are now gathering petition signatures, hoping to amend Florida’s state constitution so it reflects their views.

“Clearly, we’ll make the positive case for what we did as something that is appropriate and based on science and based on what is just,” DeSantis said.

A University of North Florida poll conducted in March found 75% of Florida residents surveyed either somewhat or strongly oppose the six week abortion ban DeSantis signed into law in April. “As a leader, it doesn’t register to me, to be quite frank,” DeSantis said regarding polling data on abortion. “I mean I think there are issues that come from your beliefs and I think that you advance those because you think they’re right.”

So how is Ronnie Anti-Abortion with a 6 Week Abortion Ban?
Babies will still be murdered under the law he signed.

And Trump has not nor will he ever sign a Federal Abortion Ban.
Yet, Ronnie signed a 6 Week Abortion Ban INTO LAW.

The title of the thread is titled DeSantis SAYS Trump’s abortion remarks show ‘the danger’ in reelecting him”

Dude's not allowed to defend himself when his action is called "terrible"?

If you are the governor of a state. A state with a 14 week abortion limit. And your legislature passes a bill banning abortion after 6 weeks and places it on your desk. You now as the governor can support your legislature taking it from 14 weeks to 6 weeks. Would you sign it? Would you consider it a "terrible" thing to sign it? Would you veto it and send it back to the legislators? If you veto are you doing so because you want that 6 moved to 0? Or are you vetoing because you want that 6 moved to 15?

I bet if DeSantis vetoes it, Trump calls him a coward. DeSantis signs it and Trump says it is terrible.

Me? I sign it and thank the legislature for their work and challenge them to continue to work towards lowering that number.

We need to remember that this is a LEGISLATIVE action by the Florida state government. DeSantis doesn't just pull out a notebook, scribble out an abortion ban, and sign it to bolster his chances for the presidency. As the state executive, it is his job to sign or veto laws drafted by the legislative branch. I don't see how this doesn't or shouldn't get his signature. On it will move to the Florida judiciary via inevitable legal challenge where the Florida court system will deem it consitutional or unconstitutional. All of this in accordance with the overturning of Roe v Wade, which we have President Trump, and SCOTUS very much to thank for.

Once again what’s the difference between Ronnie’s 6 Week Abortion Law and 15 Weeks Trump talked about?

I see a huge difference between a 6 week and a 15 week abortion ban. I hope that the 6 goes to 0 as quickly as possible. But tomorrow, if that goes from 6 to 4, I hope he signs that too.

More specifically, here's the differences I see between "Ronnie's" 6 week abortion law and the "15 Weeks" Trump talked about:

It becomes more difficult to kill this child (15 weeks):

While you can still relatively routinely kill this child (6 weeks) AND THAT SUCKS! We can do better:

This child at 7 weeks has a better chance of not being killed:

This one at 8 weeks has a chance:

A nine week old in-utero child has a better chance of life:

Here's the 10 week old:

11 weeks:

12 weeks:

Lucky 13:

And finally the 14 week old has a better chance:

So I see a big difference between a 6 week and a 15 week abortion ban. I've seen some here saying they'd prefer a 20 week! Couldn't believe my eyes. I would rather the country collapse and rebuild than trade any of those innocent lives for votes.

So why isn’t Ronnie challenging his GOP State House and Senate to lower 6
Weeks to 0 weeks? He has a bully pulpit.
BTW, a baby is a baby. 6 weeks, 15 weeks 3 months or 9 months.

I would call on him to do so. He absolutely SHOULD. So long as he is Governor of Florida, he should press his legislative body to do more to protect the unborn.

BTW, a baby is a baby. 6 weeks, 15 weeks 3 months or 9 months.

Absolutely! If you get a bill taking it from 14-6, sign it. Try to save babies between 6 and 14 weeks. But DON'T STOP fighting to get that 6 down to 0. And NEVER listen to some dude who says you should push it from 14 to 15.

I know you think you are clever, but you are not.

DeSantis took Florida from almost no abortion restrictions to 15 weeks in his first term, then to 6 weeks in his second term.

That is called moving toward our goal.

Trump would reverse what states have done in order to buy love from the Marxists, just as he did when partying with the LGBTQ crowd at Mar-a-Lago.

Trump was ready to sign an assault weapons ban in his first term. He will negotiate one to be loved by the Marxists if elected again.

I will not support pro-abortion, anti-gun candidates in the primary.

You can. Just NEVER call yourself a principled conservative.

Desantis is a non starter.

Time to stop daydreaming and come to terms with reality.

Trump is going to be the nominee.

A baby can survive on its own outside mother’s womb.
A fetus under 12 weeks has never survived outside the womb.
Under 12 weeks it is only a potential baby, not a self-survivable baby. Just stating facts.

In my own case, my wife and I refused amnio-synthesis test even though we were both in the high risk age category for possible downs syndrome child. The test was unnecessary for us since abortion was out of question.

“Voice of reason. I am not use to it so I don’t know how to respond.”

All I know is... if we are going to be able to defeat the Marxists... we MUST unite together in that common goal. That’s pretty much all I know at this point in our nation’s deliberate destruction and demise by the left. But I know it well. All this in-fighting in the name of “primary season” is just stupid ...and that’s on us. We should know better.

Why isn’t Ronnie calling for 0 Weeks abortion in FLA?
He has a Bully Pulpit. Has A GOP Majority in FLA House and Senate.
He should come out and say if a Bill reaches his desk for no Abortions
in FLA he will sign it.
What’s Ronnie waiting on?

I am 100% confident that if it could pass the Florida legislature then DeSantis would sign it.

Trump would not, which is why I will not vote for him in the primary.

You are free to support abortion for votes, but that is between you and God.

I can negotiate a deal between killing a baby and not. We kill it after a few weeks.

Boom! Deal of the century!
I am good.

That was not enough to save red wave during last midterms.

Young women voted in much higher numbers after hearing about abortion restrictions such as proposed by senator Graham.

My point was not about what is right.
In my own case, my wife and I skipped amnio strhesis test even though we were in risk age category. Because abortion was out of question.

My point was about winning elections. If did not win in 2016, Roe would still be around federally. Republicans would have better chance to win by skipping abortion issue. It is huge winning issue for Democrats.
