A former Memphis Police officer who has been charged in Tyre Nichols’ death had a previous record of policy violations and accusations of excessive force as a correctional officer, according to personnel records.
Demetrius Haley was previously a correctional officer at a prison run by the Shelby County Division of Corrections from 2015 to 2020. In his work as a corrections officer, an inmate named Cordarius Sledge accused Haley of using chemical spray on him, constituting excessive force, in 2015. However, an investigation didn’t find any violations of use of force policies of the department, and found allegations unsubstantiated.

One unsubstantiated complaint in five years hardly constitutes a pattern of abuse.

And the allegation holds more weight than the outcome of the investigation. But, inmates never lie.
Any working cop will have allegations against him. It’s part of the game the criminals play.
Whether this happened or not the murder of Tyre is all on film.
It’s hard to see what defense can be mounted against the charges.
Even if Tyre was a criminal (he had no criminal history) they can’t justify hitting him over the head with a baton as they held him up to beat him more.
No, this is exactly the kind of psycho the Memphis PD wants on their force. When there’s EIGHT of these monsters murdering a man that’s no coincidence. That’s evidence of a practice and preference.
That’ll be solid grounds for a Monell claim against the city.
I don’t dispute any of that. Just making an observation that he has no real prior history of this kind of behavior.

I had a kinsman who worked at a Correctional officer. He said after a short while the guards became just as hardened as the inmates.
