VALLEJO, Calif. -- The ordeal of Denise Huskins, whose kidnapping from her boyfriend’s Northern California home was first dismissed as a hoax by law enforcement, is getting renewed attention as the subject of a new Netflix docuseries, “American Nightmare.”
Here’s a look at the facts of the case, which captivated the country:
THE KIDNAPPING
On March 23, 2015, Huskins was kidnapped by a masked intruder who broke into the home in Vallejo, a city in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her boyfriend, Aaron Quinn, told detectives he woke up to a bright light on his face and that intruders had drugged, blindfolded and tied both of them up before forcefully taking Huskins in the middle of the night. Quinn also said the kidnappers were demanding an $8,500 ransom.

That same day, police in Vallejo announced in a news conference that they had found no evidence of a kidnapping and accused Huskins and Quinn of faking the abduction, which spurred a massive search.

The couple were proven right when Matthew Muller, a disbarred, Harvard-educated attorney, was caught and charged in Huskins' abduction.

How awful for this couple to go through such an ordeal and then for the cops to not believe them and tell the public it was a hoax.
Yeah, i agree. Just watched it today.
It was awful, but honestly I just watched the show and I didn’t believe them either when they told their story.
It was just so over the top unbelievable and they were just so calm and matter of fact about it all it was hard to believe what they were saying. I mean.. men in wet suits waking you up with lasers and making you drink nyquil?
A ransom of just $8500.00, for all that staging?
And that would have been divided up between all the kidnappers.

I was born in Vallejo and grew up there. My parents both worked at Mare Island and still live there in the house I grew up in. I moved to Texas in 1991.
The Vallejo Police are keystone cops. In 2019,
Vallejo police fired 55 shots at Willie McCoy in 3.5 seconds. He was asleep at a Taco Bell in the drive thru lane.

I started this last night and it’s actually well done.
Bay area law enforcement is notorious for corruption, and ultra woke leadership. Crime is out of control, and officers are poorly trained and poorly supervised. Lots of recent stories about Bay Area cops, committing violent crimes, running illegal businesses, and looking the other way when crimes occur. Of course most of the cops are mostly peaceful, but if 1 percent of cops are generally bad, Bay Area would probably be 10 times the norm.
they were both so calm and matter of fact when talking to police also. It just wasn’t believable, and yet... somehow was actually true.

Me too. I watched it and was like what? It was good documentary.
I watched that show. Surprising that the police there automatically went to not believing husband or wife. They were proved horribly wrong in the end. IIRC, they settled out of court with the two for $2.5 million.
