Former MLB star Steve Garvey has won more votes than Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) in the California Senate primary.
California has a unique Senate election process where it holds one primary for both parties, and the top two candidates head into the general in November. Garvey and Schiff have already won more votes than their challengers and advanced, but with votes still coming in more than a week after the Super Tuesday contest, Garvey has surpassed Schiff in the total number he has gathered.
In a surprise Wednesday, Garvey is leading Schiff by about 250,000 votes, with 89% of the votes tallied, the Associated Press reported. While the total number of votes no longer matters regarding dictating the general election, it signals a closer race than many thought Schiff would be facing against his Republican foe.
“As California’s votes are counted, it’s clear that our message of unity, common sense, and compassion resonates across the state,” Garvey campaign spokesman Matt Shupe told the Washington Examiner. “I am deeply honored by the trust and support shown in these preliminary results. Our campaign is about bringing together Californians from all walks of life to address our shared challenges. I will continue to listen, learn, and lead with compassion and work to build consensus on the real issues that matter to our communities.”
“I’m energized by our campaign’s momentum and ready for the challenge ahead,” he added. “I look forward to a spirited campaign on the critical issues facing us.”
The Washington Examiner reached out to Schiff for comment.
The two candidates will now face each other in the general election in November to fill the late Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s seat. Schiff has been expected to win in the deep blue state.
...and radical anti-America
Good points. I am cautiously optimistic about his chances. I think being a former Dodger great is going to pull some of those voters you described as well. He should be wearing a Dodger cap at every appearance.
Thanks. I should have been more clear for the benefit of out of state readers (I see you’re a refugee.)
As if they’re not dominant enough, the jungle primary was a rat ruse to ensure that republicans don’t even make it onto the general election ballot. And the knee jerk voters fell for it. Even with the split rat vote, it’s quite an accomplishment for Garvey to win the primary. When I project his chances as 20% that may sound like little, but for a Republican on a statewide ballot, that’s about as high as I’d peg anyone at this point in the election season
Schiff as a senator?
Boy, scum always rises, doesn’t it. Especially in the Democrap party.
Does not matter. Schiff will pickup nearly all Porter’s votes in the general election.
It is mere hype, and click bait, that suggests Garvey has chance against Schiff in the general election.
Nonsense.
This is just for bragging rights.
Finishing this count is not going to change the fact that Garvey and Schiff will still be the top two candidates moving forward to the general election.
I can't imagine that Barbara Lee and Katie Porter voters will switch to Garvey, so it will be Schiff in November.

Well, Feinstein’s appointed successor is some rando no one ever heard of resident of the state of Maryland, so we dont have very rigorous standards
He doesn’t realize it yet, but this is probably good for Shifty. He can now apply for the job for which he is well qualified: towel boy in a whorehouse.
“signaling trouble for Democrat”
Oh, not really - what’s the combined vote of all Democrats in the race? Schiff personally elevated Garvey to avoid having to face off against another Democrat. This vote total of Garvey’s was by Schiff’s own design.
Now if Garvey could raise at least $30 million and actually be able to raise issues with the public in California they haven’t really been exposed to in decades, he might be able to make more of a race of it...but short of that, not even a smidgen of a chance.
Schiff with 55-60% of the vote.
Does anyone believe that the CA senate race will be fair and free of dem voter fraud? Is it even possible that Schiff could lose?
Computer barcoded ballots, easily scanned by computer to tally the votes. But... "they" say the envelopes need to have signatures verified, by humans. So much for digitizing ballots to make voting "fair". How many ballots are discarded because signatures are shown to be Republican? That swings votes to the Democrats, regardless of how the people cast votes. Lots of time wasted by humans "verifying" signatures on envelopes.
Surrender Monkey whines aside, remember that House wins in California and New York gave the Americans control of the Congress.
These results raise the possibility that because they have such a strong hold on their state, the California rodents did not bother to do a good job of fashioning a foolproof cheating system.
Now it is possible that it is too late to “fix” the system for the Golden State Democrat/communists this year.
Question for Surrender Monkeys: If the California rodents have devised the perfect cheating system why didn’t they flip the switch and steal the few House seats the rodents needed to steal the House?
The New York rodents know their cheating system is unreliable so the have gone back to stealing seats with bogus redistricting.
Garvey will pick up the Early votes.
Bingo!
Please.
The democrat vote was split N ways.
I think Garvey is a better candidate but democrats combined got more than 2million more votes than Republican votes…
Garvey is a massive underdog and will
Need a miracle to win…. Maybe he can pull it off but this data point is not indicative of him winning
Many of these votes are Democrats. Schiff wanted them to vote Garvey as Schiff perceived him as the weaker of the Republicans for the general election.
“It’s up to him.”
Four points, for every Republican candidate. Repeat loudly and often: “Secure borders, good paying jobs, good schools, safe neighborhoods”.
Back when I lived in the one-golden state, I recall online stories about busses of "immigrants" going from one polling place to another. Don't know for certain, however I suspect it's true.
Now, however, the mail-in ballots might make quick work out of any election fraud success in Cali.
Garvey is a good person, and most Californians know that.
Schiff is as unlikable as he is (apparently) dirty. He loses the beauty contest, if it gets down to that.
Trunks all over the state are being loaded with “missing”
ballots as we type...
Har...
The question isn’t who received more votes, Garvey or Schitt, but rather who will get the votes from the other candidates from the primary in the November general election.
Not to mention who will get the fraudulent votes . . .
