Emerson College won’t discipline arrested students for protest, president says (will urge DA to drop chargers)

Emerson College will not take disciplinary action against students arrested as part of a pro-Palestinian protest encampment that was dispersed by Boston police last week, its president said in a letter to the college community Sunday.

Over 100 protesters were arrested in downtown Boston’s Boylston Place alleyway in the early morning on Thursday, Boston police said previously. The demonstrators were part of an encampment protest against the war in Gaza by the student organization Students for Justice in Palestine.

Those arrested in the public alleyway face “a series of charges,” including disturbing the peace and unlawful assembly, police said. But in his letter Sunday, Emerson College President Jay Bernhardt said he will encourage the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office to drop charges related to city ordinance violations stemming from the encampment.

...

In addition to forgoing disciplinary action against arrested students, Bernhardt said the college will provide housing for students who are required to stay in the city for court appearances after their dorms close. In the letter, he characterized these measures as “initial steps toward healing and growth.”

Let's see they set up an illegal encampment in a city owned alley, block exits from buildings, send multiple Police to the hospital and the college won't sanction them urges the DA to drop chargers and will provide free housing while they are in court.

I can't imagine why they think actions don't have consequences.

“The College has done its best to keep all community members safe every day during these challenging times, but we recognize that we must do more,” Bernhardt wrote. “Our leadership team is committed to redoubling our efforts, engaging and respecting all voices across our community, and actively listening and learning how to move forward together.”

What a bunch of leftist feel good meaningless feel good words strung tougher.

If they were conservative students they’d be looking at ten years in a federal supermax cell.

Where are loyal American alumni that find this offensive? That administration needs to resign. Lose their funding.

And no bail before the trial...some time in the next 2 years after the arrest.

Emerson College needs new leadership. Preferably someone with the courage of their convictions...or at least a good set of gonads, with the ability to distinguish right from wrong and always choose the right.

UK to detain asylum seekers in SHOCK Rwanda operation
The Guardian ^ | April 28 | Severin Carrell, Rajeev Syal and Aletha Adu

The Home Office will launch a major operation to detain asylum seekers across the UK on Monday, weeks earlier than expected, in preparation for their deportation to Rwanda, the Guardian can reveal.

Officials plan to hold refugees who turn up for routine meetings at immigration service offices or bail appointments and will also pick people up nationwide in a surprise two-week exercise.

Lawyers and campaigners said the detentions risked provoking protracted legal battles, community protests and clashes with police – with officers in Scotland put on high alert.

Enver Solomon, the chief executive of the Refugee Council, said: “The government is determined to recklessly pursue its inhumane Rwanda plan despite the cost, chaos and human misery it will unleash. We know it is likely to cause a catastrophic system meltdown.”

Detainees will be immediately transferred to detention centres, which have already been prepared for the operation, and held until they are put on planes to Rwanda. Some will be put on the first flight due to take off this summer.

The Home Office said ratification of the prime minister’s Safety of Rwanda Act meant “the government is entering the final phase of operationalising this landmark policy to tackle illegal migration and stop the boats”.

It added: “At some stage inevitably this will include detaining people in preparation for the first flight, which is set to take off to Rwanda in 10 to 12 weeks. It would be inappropriate to comment further on operational activity.”

Idiot. They don’t want healing and they don’t want growth.

They want you dead.

The J6 guys are getting harder treatment for doing less.

How come these brown people are getting treated differently? Is it because they’re brown? Cause I thought they wanted to be treated just like white people.

I’ve seen very little evidence that the student protesters are students at the colleges. Observing their equipment, signage, clothing, and conduct, they seem more like hired mobs. The tents are all the same. Same color and age. They seem to have command and control operations, logistical support, legal counsel, per-diems, and travel.
