Much has been already been written, but I will try to add some thoughts regarding the speech that received raves and was heard around the world. As President Bush stood there, looking taller than usual and more resolute, he began to speak. I turned to my husband. "This is going to go down as one of the top three of the past century," said I. "How do you know?" said he. "Check out Bush´s demeanor. He´s angry, and determined. Bush is best when he´s angry, because he´s driven." I was right. His rage could hardly be contained in spite of his composed but solemn demeanor. The more President Bush said, the better he said it. His objectives clear, his manner steadfast, his message assured Americans of our nation´s strength, renewed our commitment to freedom, recounted acts of heroism during the attack, and warned that this war will not be a short one, will leave many casualties and be fought without a definite endpoint in sight. Noticeable in the background was Hillary. Glum, pouting and moody, she was having a bad case of PMS (Pre-Presidential Misery Syndrome). It´s easy to see why. Seeing Bush´s commanding presentation, Hillary woke up to see her own dreams of running in 2004 go poof! Oh, the pity of it all! In fact, President Bush exceeded everybody´s expectations. Prior to his address, he was shaking hands with members of Congress, and his fondness and warmth toward everyone was genuine. This is not a pretentious man. This is no Gore, or Clinton. Underrated and scorned by the press as inexperienced, ineffectual, incapable of handling foreign affairs, and too dumb to enunciate a sentence, he seemed articulate enough last night. If this keeps up, President Bush may surpass Ronald Reagan as the greatest communicator of all. Most impressive is that Bush was able to portray and strike a balance between two contrasting images: his humanitarian side and his role as Commander-In-Chief: "Deliver to United States authorities all the leaders of al-Qaida who hide in your land. Release all foreign nationals including American citizens you have unjustly imprisoned, and protect foreign journalists, diplomats, and aid workers in your country. Close immediately and permanently every terrorist training camp in Afghanistan and hand over every terrorist, and every person in their support structure, to appropriate authorities. Give the United States full access to terrorist training camps, so we can make sure they are no longer operating. These demands are not open to negotiation or discussion. The Taliban must act and act immediately. They will hand over the terrorists, or they will share in their fate." This was an ultimatum to terrorists throughout the world to either act in accordance with our terms, or pay dearly. The ultimatum didn´t end there: "Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists. From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime." Contrast these stern warnings with Bush´s kind words of praise to members of Congress of both parties: "Speaker Hastert and Minority Leader Gephardt, Majority Leader Daschle and Senator Lott, I thank you for your friendship and your leadership and your service to our country
And ladies and gentlemen of the Congress, I thank you, their representatives, for what you have already done, and for what we will do together." For the American people, he had reassuring words: "I ask you to live your lives and hug your children. I know many citizens have fears tonight, and I ask you to be calm and resolute, even in the face of a continuing threat." For the victims´s families, his words were personal and filled with emotion: "And I will carry this. It is the police shield of a man named George Howard, who died at the World Trade Center trying to save others. It was given to me by his mom, Arlene, as a proud memorial to her son." One specific measure taken by President Bush was the establishment of the Office of Homeland Security, which will help oversee air traffic safety and thwart any future terrorist attempts at home. Finally, these touching words: "Finally, please continue praying for the victims of terror and their families, for those in uniform and for our great country. Prayer has comforted us in sorrow, and will help strengthen us for the journey ahead." One year ago, I had no idea what Governor Bush meant in his campaign when he kept referring to "compassionate conservatism." After watching President Bush last night, I have no doubts. It takes a very big man with a huge heart and a keen understanding of our people and our national interests to accomplish what President Bush did last night. Those old worries about his being too inexperienced to be a capable leader are over. We can finally kiss goodbye any attempts by grumbling liberals to ever bring up the Florida recount again.
I agree with you on the Presidents speech, it was magnificent!
However, I must take exception to the remark about Floridians. You see, I am a native born Floridian (very rare here in the state) and would certainly never knowingly harbor any known criminal or terrorist. I am first and foremost an American! I am sure you did not mean to paint Floridians with this broad brush, so I will not make issue with this.
I was just as appalled with the 2000 recount as the rest of the country. Please try to remember, we had every Liberal Hack from around the country here pandering the left leaning media. South Florida seems to be a retired New Yorker Mecca and remember Bugsy Daily from Chicago.
Yes we looked like idiots in the media eye and probably to the rest of the country. However, the State carried for GW and launched him into the White House. I am one of those Broken Glass Republicans who helped usher a dozen or so people to the poles and changed the minds of at least two DemocRATs.
As far as Hitlery, every time I saw her face during the speech, I had to spit.
Before broad brushing Floridians you may want to remember what happened to Dr. Sam Mudd, the one that set the broken leg of John Wilkes Booth. He was not a part of the conspiracy to assassinate Lincoln, however, he was put in prison and later pardoned for setting a man's broken leg without knowledge of the crime Booth had just perpetrated.
What I see here is the real problem of immigration and the easy entry to our borders.
God Bless America!
I ask myself that question each time I'm assaulted by her loathsome visage. I tried to warn them. They didn't listen. Some of them even cursed me in the process.
And I think there's more to come over the next few months. They lost a lot of their power on 1/20/2001 [thank GOD!]. As the saying goes, "You can run, but you can't hide."
God truly blesses America.
George Bush will be resented by many before his service as president is complete. The reason can be explained in three words; Bush is effective.
The reason I feel Bush is effective is because he concentrates his energies on the objective while reserving credit for those who earn it.
"The way to get things done is not to mind who gets the credit for doing them." Benjamin Jowett
'Cause if you're not, I'd sure hate to be any woman in your family (or any woman who even has to talk with you, for that matter).
Of course, you could always move to Afghanistan, where they agree with your opinion about women. :o)
Thanks for the ping, lawgirl!!
One more point for you, sonny........Hillary can't bake, and she doesn't really have a husband, now, does she?
(Geez, I hope you don't have a wife ....or a mother, for that matter!!)
I'll bet the cookies would be awful.

HERE IS THE REAL STORY ON ARMING PILOTS.
FIVE THOUSAND LOST LIVES FOR THE WANT OF TWO THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED EIGHTY DOLLARS.
Israel Airlines bolts the Cockpit door and all Pilots and copilots carry Firearms.

New Release
Ponder for a moment.
We trust a pilot with a 30 million-dollar plane knowledgeable of complex airplane functions, but government policy will not allow them to operate a simple firearm.
ILL FLY AGAIN WHEN PILOTS ARE ARMED.
Israel Airlines bolts the Cockpit door and all Pilots and copilots carry Firearms.
Scanning the websites this week the following thread from Pilots, Law Enforcement, and American Citizens discuss ways to take positive action against air terrorism.
We trust a fancy security question (Thanks to Jim Kallstom, former FBI, did you pack your bags?) but not millions of active and retired law enforcement officers to Citizen Carry on an airplane.
May I rant for a second! Get these liberal, antigun activists out of our government decision making process. Consider, Israel Airlines policy is to bolt the door, arms it pilots, and has armed travelers in the cabin.
We allow lowly-paid gate-guards to gate dis-arm us, creating a "killing zone of disarmed citizens", as passingers "do battle" in the sky with terrorists, using passion for weapons because misguided government policy has left us defenseless.
The government can not protect you when the terrorist is eyeball to eyeball with you. Now they have ban my pocketknife used to clean my nails. What next, bottles, because they can be smashed for a weapon??
Most all of the former military pilots strapped firearms to their legs when on active duty. Today they are considered not capable, wear the wrong uniform, or untrust worthy.
This BS about putting a 9mm hole in the skin of an airplane will bring it down is more rhetoric and fiction than fact. Just ask the thousand of airmen who returned from flights over Germany in WWII. How about the 747 over Hawaii with a 20-foot hole in the side. Still got a problem with possible decompression? Consider the alternative!
Ill trust anyday my life to any active or retired law enforcement officer to CITIZEN CARRY on any airline.
Ill trust anyday my life to any pilot or copilot active or retired to carry on any airline.
Ill trust any American citizen willing to CITIZEN CARRY after extensive training to carry on any airline. It is a huge responsibility, however, the current "Killing Zones" set up by faulty thinking is killing our husbands, wives, children, and our nation.
I am sure thousands perhaps millions of Americans would trust their life to armed pilots, copilots, air crew members, retired, policemen, FBI, CIA, ATF, or American Citizens willing to train, quality, and stay current with cabin safety issues keeping America airlines safe.
I personally trust all of the above personnel, rather than phony security questions, low-pay air guards, unlocked backdoor food and cleaning functions or gates at airports, or government officials with big titles.
WHO DO YOU TRUST THE GOVERNMENT? OR DO YOU TRUST HONEST AMERICAN CITIZENS WHO LIVE AND BREATH FAMILY SAFETY WHEN TRAVELING?
What do you want in your cockpit, a pilot and copilot with a firearm, or a terrorist? 2,180 dollars (four colt pistols)would have prevented all four terrorist acts and saved five thousand lives.
Government will spend billions of dollars with highly visible, and breach-able security that irritates American citizens during check-in when other more effective obvious solutions exist. Just ask Israel.
Thousands of American veterans, retired LEO's and American Citzens want to sign up today to fight terrorism. Don't tell them they are unqualified. If you do tell them they are unqualifed, they may have a word or two for you.

amen !
I don't know, Ronald Reagan could move me to tears with his speeches. Come to think of it I was all teared up during President Bush's speech the other night too! You might have something there!
