I have delivered this article to the Chief of Police's office in Austin. Hopefully, they will call me after it's read. I have informed them of our planned rally on Saturday, and I am hoping they will advise us as to whether it is wise to hold our rally. Who know's --they may be clueless and not take any of this seriously.

The Soviets also desired a warm water port on the Indian Ocean; the Soviet Union had no seaports that were ice-free, year round.

Please correct this. Editorial Staff. :)

The Soviets also desired a warm water port on the Indian Ocean.

While this statement is probably correct, it cannot be a direct "reason" for invading Afghanistan (as your sentence suggests), since Afghanistan is land-locked. Ed.

This is superior work, please don't take my criticism personally.

Laz pointed that out- I agree that I was needlessly vague in a manner that could easily be read the wrong way. I changed the text on my web page to be a bit more clear.

Thanks, and I never mind constructive criticism.

I believe the thought at the time was that Afghanistan was just a stepping stone. Next would have been either Iran or Pakistan, both with ports on the North Arabian Sea.

It's a common misconception that the Soviet Union did not have any warm-water ports, probably arising from their experiences in WW2, when the only functional ports on the Eastern Front were above the Artic Circle (Murmansk and Arkhangel'sk). Another possible source of the misconception was the prevailing (and correct) U.S. Naval North Atlantic strategy of defending against a Soviet naval surge by defending gaps (Norway-UK, Greenland-Iceland-UK, even the Denmark Straight). This strategy left the impression that the Soviets were land-locked, when in reality, the Soviet Union merely was geographically unsuited for naval operations.

In any case, Soviet-era warm-water ports (not including the Pacific or the Black Sea) included Kaliningrad (Kaliningrad Oblast), Klaipeda (Lithuania), Riga (Latvia), and possibly Tallinn (Estonia). Note that, to this day, Kaliningrad remains the HQ of the Russian Baltic Fleet. (Although Kaliningrad itself is geographically separated from the Russian Federation).

Happy to help . . . I didn't read the comments on this thread, so maybe someone else had already pointed this out to you . . . and I'm happy that you believe in constructive criticism.

The shifting focus of this protest shows that the people involved have one goal in mind, and it is not the stated intent, which has shifted from protesting the IMF and World Bank, to protesting President Bush's retaliation to the attacks, to now protesting racism and the coming war on terrorism. The real goal is disruption, as well as to gain publicity, and to put political pressure on the government of the United States to move away from capitalism.

Anti-American socialists! They don't care about our country and our people. They are psychologically disturbed not different from the terrorists' way of feeling.

Done some more searching "whois" on these sites. I think that there is something here, beyond what can be found in an archive. A tremendous amount of activity in the past couple of weeks as these sites were gobbled up (as one might expect). names4ever.com seems to have grabbed quite a few.

I've already pointed out two that stink to high heaven in my post above. There is more to be learned by checking the rest.

Wood, thanks for the international dialing code info. Korea is 805, yet their giving an Australian number (methinks if you call it, you'll get nothing - it's as made up as the given zip code) for a Korean contact name (with phony address) and a Texas P.O. Box?

And two of the sites mentioned in Hugh's great article are taken in the same day by the same person. Hmmm...

The SPLC considers anyone who has ever read the constitution to be their enemy. Anyone who's their enemy is my friend.

Good work! Thanks for compiling, writing, and posting this.

Wednesday, Michael Medved had a Sarah Sloan from ANSWER on his show...she sounded as though she was 14, spewing Marxist party line hatred nonstop like a windup toy that doesn't run down. She even claimed that the US did NOT fight Nazis during WW2. Medved called her "scum" twice. He was furious. It's useful to hear these people, I believe, to understand how very crazy -- and dedicated -- they are.

Crazy + Dedicated = Dangerous

Fabulous article!!!

I have a suggestion for those Freepers who may be intimidated out of showing up on Saturday... It starts with a chant that goes like this...

"Same Song, Second Verse, A Little Bit Louder And A Little Bit Worse..." (then it goes right to a song)

"You Can't Ride In My Red Wagon, The Wheel Is Broke And The Axel's Saggin..." (then back to the chant)

"Same Song, Third Verse, A Little Bit Louder And A Little Bit Worse..."

This "round" of chanting and singing continues through the verses, till exhausted with each "verse" actually louder than the last!!!

Rush is talking about Edward R. Morrow's stupid chicken crap comments immediately following the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, which, of course is dwarfed by the stealth and magnitude of the current atrocity on the city.

I hope Freepers aren't intimidated away from D.C. on Saturday to confront this croud of Commonists who hate the success of America and Americans even if it's government isn't perfect, all the time! It's way ahead of any alternative these defectives have to offer as a form of government.
