I lived out of country for 4 months and I looked forward to the mail everyday. When I got a letter, it meant so much to me. This is great. I have signed up and urge all to do the same.

They are fighting for us. The least we can do is write a letter or send a care package.

By the way, there is a site called:

AdoptASolder.org

which was established before Sept. 15. It looks like the .com site cannibalized the preexisting site's content.

Thanks!! This is just great. I will adopt our grand nephew who is with the 82nd Airborne. He will probably be in the thick of things. This is my assumption, nothing that I know for a fact. What do you think would be the best items for him to have? I visited with him a couple of weeks ago before the WTC and he is so prepared, mentally, spiritually and physically. We are so proud of him.

By the way, I do agree that this idea is a worthy one, and I hope people will find a way to help someone in the military.

Freepmail me if you think your family would provide the name of someone without family to write to them. Not quite comfortable with these organizations...after the comments.

I noticed on this website "adoptasoldier" that the "Pledge of Allegiance" as quoted by Red Skelton left out the words "under God", i.e., "...one nation under God, indivisible...." Is this a true quote since I remember his show as little person always saying at the very end "and may God bless?"

I'm with you . . . watched Red Skelton many an evening way back when . . . find it hard to believe that he would not have said ". . . one nation under God, indivisible . . . " Let's just hope the omission was an honest error.

Well, I recognize the addresses TG gave above as legit: we sent care boxes to those Red Cross stations last year.

So this website is sort of redirecting, a help site. Okay. I just hate to see people scamming and make money off this.

This is a great program. When I was in second grade during the Gulf War, I made letters and pictures with my class to be sent to those brave men and women in unifrom. Now I find myself in unifrom, albeit I am still in college and merely a cadet. I find it interesting that in four years I will be in the same posistion as those men of the Gulf War, it is really comforting to know that so many went before. It is amazing how things go full circle. I have to adopt one of these brave men and women. IN four years I will stand with them. GOD BLESS YOU Freepers, I love how we freepers rally to our men and women in uniform. NU Cadet

Me too! It's really a shame, but you just don't know anymore. I look at the kids at the supermarket with their cans shaking and envision an inground pool in someone's backyard. I think by now the soccer teams in town should have a domed-arena with sod for year-round use. What's the saying, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

Just make it PBJ with Raspberry jelly!

YEEKS, people are being INVITED to send food/medicinal products to our armed forces men/women? Including homemade and home repackaged stuff? This used to be safe enough, but now that we have a HUGE fifth column of American Muslims -- hope they're REAL good at checking for poison!!!
