One thing I thought about involved a hypothetical situation in which a relative (even a distant one) died at a fairly young age. What would ever prevent me from assuming all of his "paperwork" and acting as if he were still alive? I'd simply hand in his resignation at work (if this were an issue) and let all levels of government presume I was him.

I know it's harder than I've made it seem, but imagine if the death occurred at a young enough age and involved two cousins or brothers who were fairly close in age. It would not be difficult to raise the survivor with two different identities, since they are young enough that they haven't left any kind of "paper trail" behind.

BTW, Barr talks a great game, but in effect he is advocating the overthrow of the very organization that he belongs to. The fact that he hasn't resigned yet tends to lend some "legitimacy" to this movement to restrict our rights.

Bob Barr is one of the few remaining in government who can truly be called a constitutional conservative. Barr has been a consistent servant to and protector of the very oath he took for office. Moderate Republicans as well as Democrats fear him for his stands against those who wish to subvert our constitution and flaunt our laws. Congress doesn't need a majority of either party in the houses. Congress needs about a third of it's members with the determination of Bob Barr to stand for what is right instead of what is P.C. and to their parties best interest.

Uncle Bill, I don't know if you are a Christian are not but it is very clear in scriptures that, when the anti-Christ shows up, a system is already in place and so entrenched world wide, that all he has to do is require his mark on a person.

In other words, there is a system already in place when he shows up that is so invasive to privacy that all he has to do is demand his mark on a person, and without that mark they cannot buy or sell.

This gives a person the right to suppose that nothing is going to stop this rolling stone, it can be slow and incremental, or, due to a sudden and horrible event. For it to happen quickly and become world wide would take an event that is so terrible that people throw down their privacy for safety and implement a world wide id/debit/card.

This in no way means we shouldn't fight it and demand our congress avoid it, but it is pretty much apparent that they will ignore the public when they get rolling on something. They have ignored the majority of Americans wanting closed borders, they have ignored our fear of immigration, and they will ignore us on this eventually.

Great article. I did not see the date, and it seemed just like what was happening under Bush too. When I got to all the president Clinton stuff then I knew it was an old article. Bob is on of the great ones. In fact I can only think of 2 good ones up there. The other being Ron Paul. Bob is so right. And he could sure add some things to this article if he were to re-right it today. What Bush and his so called homeland security are doing to out freedom is pretty scary stuff. The whole thing is a scam to take away our rights. The government does not enforce the laws against immigrants as it is...then why would they create more. The government got us in this mess in the first place. Those on FR that would choose to bury there heads in the sand while our freedoms go away don't belong here. You can claim that it is happening for the war effort, and support, but that is just the distraction these officials need to snuff out your last American rights.

Uncle Bill, you always have some great stuff to post, and say. I wish a lot more of the wise old timers were around here. It is not like it used to be. I have often thought that a lot of these people who have there heads buried in the sand, and screaming let the government do as they want...It is for our good....I think some of them are government plants myself. If so they have succeeded in converting a whole lot of people to there views. We can't count on FR anymore to stop the slide from freedom. We can make a few people aware, but I am afraid there is little left we can do to change the course of the Brave New World.

Damn Uncle Bill! I feel vindicated. I've been feeling this way as I watch our government in action. But all of the Rah! Rah! Blind-Loyal Patriots have been shouting folks like me down. I'm glad this came from a congressman with Barr's background. Thank-you for the excellent post.

Thanks for the post...appreciate it

"...The fact is, a majority of Americans are deeply concerned about their eroding rights. But, it's also a fact they've been too silent for too long about their concern. It's time for the great silent majority of Americans to send a clear message to Washington. It takes repeated individual action. It takes constant organized action, such as ... CPAC. Use the tools of our era including the Internet ... FreeRepublic.com. Fortunately, the message is a simple one, but it must be repeated loudly and often. It only takes three words. Leave ... us ... alone!..."

A reading of George Washington's Farewell Address is in order for the nation, including all of our elected officials! Washington's telescopic vision is proving to be uncanny.

Yielding up the liberty left to us by our knowledgeable and brave ancestors of the founding generation should not have been taken lightly. Theirs it was to enshrine the formula in a Declaration of Independence and to secure "the Blessings of Liberty" through a written Constitution which lasted for more than 200 years.

"What form of government have you given us?" asked the lady of Mr. Franklin. "A republic, Madam," said he, "if you can keep it."

Had we not allowed our schools and our homes to stop passing on the ideas of liberty, no politicians could have wrested adequate power from us to enslave us (oh, and the pulpits have not helped either, as they did in the revolutionary period).

Restore the founding ideas to prominence in the "public square" and the very common sense of them will captivate the minds of millions of young Americans, too long dulled by the liberal pablum of counterfeit ideas.

To his shame, when the time came to stand up for freedom and the Constitution, Mr. Barr failed and voted with the party instead of upholding his oath of office. It was a sad day for him and the nation.

Georgia Congressman Bob Barr, the gimlet-eyed Grand Inquisitor of Capitol Hill, has long been a foe of medical or recreational use of marijuana. When citizens of Washington, D.C., voted overwhelmingly to legalize pot for medical use last fall, Republican Barr led the charge to nullify a vote that the pro-pot forces won fair and square. On Oct. 21, a small band of medical marijuana advocates blocked the door to Barr's Washington office in an act of nonviolent civil disobedience to dramatize the fact that political hacks like Barr talk about the evils of ''big government'' while using their big government power to negate legal votes of citizens and withhold a cheap and effective medicine that could help Americans suffering from such conditions as AIDS and cancer chemotherapy.

From Online Athens (Georgia), Nov 20, 1999.

Bob Barr is full of CRAP. He talks out both sides of his mouth.

You cannot have only a little tyranny. He is the Neville Chamberlain of the Congress.
