To those who lost someone, a New Year wish
12/31/01 | LBGA

Posted on 12/31/2001 12:33:50 PM PST by LBGA

We have shared many triumphs and tragedies with the friends we have made here.

We have mourned with many over the loss of loved ones, and have lost some of our own. I would like to pay tribute to all FReepers who have come here and become a part of our lives who have gone through the holidays without someone precious to them, and who face new challenges in the year to come.

I just wanted those of you who lost a loved one in the past year or more to know that your friends are thinking about you at this special time of year, and we sincerely hope that the coming year will bring a return of peace and happiness to your families.

A very special holiday greeting and wishes for a better 2002 to Howlin, Alamo-Girl, RMDupree, Mrs. BCM, BCM-fil, Ted Olson, Mrs. Chief Negotiator, AlwaysWatching, caitlynsmom, JohnD9207.

I'll add your friend to my prayers. To lose someone in such a senseless act of violence is especially hard to take. I have a friend who lost a niece on TWA 800, and it is still so difficult for her family. I hope your friend finds comfort and peace.

Thanks, I lost my Mom on Nov. 10th. She was a wonderful person (and the Republican Party lost a voter in NC). She was 92 (actually my grandmother who adopted me) and we knew her time on this earth was short, but I really miss her. She never failed to vote, and during her eulogy, the pastor spoke of her love of government and politics. Everyone that knew her passion and fervor chuckled. This loss has been especially trying for me this holiday season. No matter how well prepared I thought I was, I still feel much sadness. She loved life so much. . .

Thank you. I am blessed that my son just came home after a year being away, and then I realized I am so blessed because he did. Holidays are tough without all of our loved ones around us.

Alissa, may the emptiness you feel inside you right now be filled with wonderful memories of your mother. She sounds like a very special lady.

Although you couldn't hug her this year, she will always be there in your heart. My sincere condolences to you for your loss.

It seems you have a special gift for putting a face on our family here, LBGA. This thread, for instance, will let us know about others who are suffering a loss so that we may pray for them. I am now praying for you, Alissa and for your friend, tet68!

Thank you for this thread...my Daddy died in August, he was everything to me and I have had a really hard time recovering from my depression. I'd like to pass along a true personal story that I sent to my mother in an e-mail this morning.

Thank you for your e-mail this morning, it really lifted my spirits. I had a really rough night. After the last of the Christmas celebrations was over yesterday and Charlie had gone to bed, I broke down and cried uncontrollably thinking about Dad and how much I missed him this Christmas. I was finally able to compose myself when my eyes rested upon a present that I received yesterday.

A friend of mine gave me a beautiful clock that has a holographic picture of the Guardian Angel with the children on the bridge. It was really strange, as he did not have enough money to get his kids or grandkids anything, but he said when he saw that clock, he just had to buy it for me, it was as if it beckoned him.

He explained to me that every picture he had seen like that before (his mother has one) had the missing board in the bridge in front of the children, this one had the missing board behind the children, like they had already crossed safely over the gaping hole with the assistance of the Guardian Angel.

When I looked at the picture during my moment of grief, I suddenly had a feeling as if this present was a direct message from Dad...that the Lord had somehow guided my friend...that it was a message that I need to cross over that gaping hole I have in my heart and go forward. I then pulled the video tape out of our trip to see you and Dad in May and watched it and I felt such a peace come over me, I think I am going to be ok now.

I can't help but smile at the thought that the Lord sure picks some strange messengers, but those signs are always present for those who seek Him, you just have to look with your heart instead of taking everything at face value.

Here's hoping that everyone will learn to "see with their hearts" and know the comfort that the Lord can bring even in your darkest hour. Happy New Year to all...may God bless your lives!

Sheryl Ann Scott, my late and very loved wife, succumbed to esophageal cancer on 4 March 2001. Tonight will be rough – it will be the first New Year's Eve in a very long time when I'll be alone.
Well, her little dog – The Booger – will be here.
Thank you for that thought.

I am so sorry for your loss. The first Christmas without a loved one is always the hardest, and the feeling of loss is so acute.

That was a beautiful story. It is strange how we receive messages of reassurance from the oddest sources. God bless you, and may your heart continue to heal.
