ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Reuters) - No one likes routine housework, but Japanese men are among the world's most artful dodgers of the duty, a new survey of how men and women in seven countries spend their time revealed on Tuesday.
The study by the University of Michigan's Institute for Social Research showed Japanese men spend only a quarter of the time on household chores that their American counterparts do, and only one-sixth of that devoted to housework by Swedish males.
Japanese men do only four hours of cooking, cleaning and other housework a week, the study found, compared to the 16 hours American men spend a week on such tasks.
While the workload for American men had risen from 12 hours a week in 1965, it was still less than the 24 hours a week put in by "gender egalitarian" Swedish males.
Overall women in those countries still did more housework than men. American women spend about 27 hours a week on housework, according to the study, compared to Japanese women who do 29 hours a week and Swedish women who do 33 hours.
Prepared by an institute that ranks itself as the world's largest academic survey and research organization, the study was based on results from Canada, Russia, Finland and Hungary as well as the United States, Sweden and Japan.
It notes that most people rate routine housework as the least enjoyable use of their time.
Among other findings, the study showed that leisure time is greatest in Japan, Sweden and the United States and lowest in Hungary, for both men and women
I do NOT do laundry, never.
What about sports loving women like Tex? Where does this leave her?
Where does this leave her?
Women work in the home to provide a nurturing environment and raise children (including schooling them).
If you don't have this arrangement then you are failing yourselves.
Doesn't look familiar, does it?
Ok you two, Cagey and Rush - you both know I do everything - my husband doesn't NEED to do even 4 hours of housework a week...much less in a month! He will help, but it is my job - he brings home the money, I spend it..... I think that is fair.....
Rush, I ALWAYS get my work done so I can watch my sports... lol
Maybe he could open a house cleaning business to help out harried housewives! LOL
Brand new they run @ $1,600. I bought mine used with all sorts of wonderful attachments for $225.
eBay has a lot of Rainbows available.
I have an attachment for cleaning hardwood, tile, or vinyl floors that is incredible. Poor water and cleaner on the floor and with one side of the attachment you "brush" the floor to clean it and then flip over the attachment and suck everything up. Never mop again. Plus it has a mini head for cleaning stairs and furniture. I love it. I will have a Rainbow for as long as I am the one vacuuming.
I personally think, he, not algore, invented the internet and has all these pictures in a filing cabinet in his office.....
As far as him hiring out to help harried housewives.... would YOU want someone called "Cagey" at home, alone, with YOUR wife? lol
That depends on what the meaning of "your wife" is!
