"Band of Brothers" is coming back to HBO, starting Monday, April 8th. If you haven't seen this series, you really need to. It will give you a good view of what WWII/Europe was like. Much better than Saving Private Ryan. Looks like 9 Eastern/8 Central. They are playing Parts 1 and 2.

It was great and I got every episode on tape more or less. I'm not happy with the quality of my own recordings and want the DVD set. Anyone hear when that will be available?

Anyone hear when that will be available? An educated guess would be after they replay the series. I too am eagerly anticipating the DVD release. I hope it has a lot of extras!

I'm thinking this summer, I heard end-of-May/June (which would make sense, replay it now, it finishes next month in time for Memorial Day or D-Day).
I am looking forward to the DVD as well, HBO does a very good job with their DVDs.
I had heard that HBO was incredibly pleased with the series (and considering the awards it won, who wouldn't be) and was looking at doing a similar series either in the Pacific theater, or perhaps Korea, anybody else hear that?

Sorry for dredging up an old post. I'm pretty new at FR and "Band of Brothers" looks very interesting. For anyone who's seen it, in its entirety, does it reenact the events of WW2 fairly, or is it littered with Hollywood liberal bias?
I just want to make sure I don't waste my time.
Thank you for any input.

Good series. I heard that they were thinking of changing the name of the History Channel to the Band of Brothers Channel since they have been showing it almost nonstop for the last month.

Steven Speilberg and Tom Hanks are going to do one re: the pacific theater.

Steven Speilberg and Tom Hanks are going to do one re: the pacific theater. This will be the real test of Speilberg's commitment to realism.
In other words, I hope he's not planning on shooting the series in Hawaii.

For anyone who's seen it, in its entirety, does it reenact the events of WW2 fairly, or is it littered with Hollywood liberal bias?I saw it twice in it's entirety and detected no such bias at all. An outstanding achievement.

Excellent. Superb. NO politics at all.
You want to have this DVD set in your collection.

It is based on Stephen Ambrose's book. The series includes extensive interviews of the actual "brothers", who seem to think it was well done.
Watch especially for the interviews of Dick Winters, the leader of the Band, and a true hero and man among men.

The series was based entirely upon historical accounts from members of the 506 ABN.
At least, thats what I supposed, although there are one or two incidents that seem a little unlikely - like one guy stalking & killing a death camp kommandant after the surrender. Anyway the series is very well done.

My Dad was in the 506th.101st. Went in just behind D-day and was a Bastone. Severely wounded just after the breakout, somewhere near Foy. I watch the series with great interest as Dad would never talk about the War except to say he had never been so cold in his life (foxhole outside of Bastone for a month).
