September 16, 2002 -- WASHINGTON - U.S. intelligence officials fear that Saddam Hussein has concocted a doomsday plan that would use al Qaeda to attack America with Iraqi-provided biological weapons, The Post has learned.
The threat has been raised in secret intelligence assessments provided to top military officials and White House policymakers as they prepare for war, administration officials told The Post.

The fact is that if Saddam has these weapons he will threaten to use them sooner or later. If he decides, once he attains nuclear arms, to invade another of his neighboring countries, and the US intervenes, he will use everything at his disposal at that time.
It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when, imo.
We can either attack him now, on our terms, or later, on his.
To: kattracks
And what's more... a nutjob like him is not going to be particular about who he gives the weapons to.
I for one don't like the idea of trying to 'contain' him... we 'contained' states throughout the cold war and all we did was prolong the misery for the people while simultaneously letting the problem get too big to deal with, to the point that we're effectively blackmailed.

RE #2
Your scenario is getting a media endorsement. :)

The blackmail aspect of this situation only gets worse the longer we wait. I do feel sorriest for Israel as they are smaller and closer than we are.
It is all in God's hands. If this is the End Times and we have world wide plagues, then so be it. But I believe our only reasonable approach to defusing this ticking time bomb is to go as soon as possible to obliterate him and his labs.
And I'm sure that President Bush agrees.

We can either attack him now, on our terms, or later, on his. Well, yes, I suppose, if he survives. But something could happen to him.

But something could happen to him.
Which begs the question, has the ban on assassinations [executive order] been lifted or waived?

I do feel sorriest for Israel as they are smaller and closer than we are. Don't misjudge the Israelis. They are watching Saddam as closely as we are. And they are not the least bit shy about pre-emptive action. Remember when they unilaterally took out the Osirak nuclear reactor just before it was about to go online? Nobody in America was even aware of Saddam's nuke program, but the Israelis just went in and destroyed it, meaning that Saddam didn't have nukes during Desert Storm.
There is no question about the Israelis having nukes, and they probably have the most advanced chemical and biological warfare program in the middle east.
If they have the slightest inclination that Saddam is about to use weapons of mass destruction against them, they will obliterate Iraq while we are busy talking about it.

Yep...good for the Israelis. At least they think defensively and not politically correct. How can we expect to fight fair when Saddam sure isn't going to. This is not a gentlemens game of chess, its war and war is nasty, there is no way to sugar coat it. It makes me sad, but if I have to die, if my children have to die for future generations then so be it. Blood has always been the cost of freedom and thousands died to give me what I have enjoyed thus far.
Pray for our leaders, pray for our country, this is a holy war. The sons of Issac against the sons of Ishmel. Seems like life use to be a lot less complicated than it is now, and a lot less scary.

that Saddam Hussein has concocted a doomsday plan that would use al Qaeda to attack America ... I seethe every time I think that once we pound this as***** into rubble, that there will be all sorts of American morons falling all over themselves demanding that we "rebuild" Iraq.
The purpose of defeating a lethal enemy completely is precisely to force him to rebuild his miserable existence unaided, and stay out of trouble.
To suggest otherwise is the ultimate of irrationality masquerading as "humanity".
I say let whatever Iraqis survive rebuild Iraq brick by brick, and the longer it takes them the better.
They might end up hating us?
What's new?
Do I care?

Millions would have been saved IF the various nations had had the guts to stop hitler when he first started his aggression against the world.

The Saudis, et al, are obstructing precisely because they fear that we will rebuild Iraq in our image (a la Germany and Japan after WWII), and that it will start the dominoes a-fallin'.
