Iraq Says It's Free of Nuclear Weapons

UNITED NATIONS (AP) -- Iraq is free of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons, the country's foreign minister told the United Nations in a speech Thursday that included excerpts of a letter from Saddam Hussein.

``Our country is ready to receive any scientific experts, accompanied by politicians you choose to represent any one of your countries, to tell us which places and scientific installations they would wish to see,'' Naji Sabri said, quoting the Iraqi president.

``I herby declare before you that Iraq is clear of all nuclear, chemical and biological weapons,'' Sabir said, further quoting Saddam.

The speech heavily criticized the United States and President Bush for trying to link Iraq in some way to the tragedy of Sept. 11.

The Iraqi president charged that ``the American propaganda machine, along with official statements of lies, distortion and falsehood'' was being used for ``inciting the American public against Iraq, and pushing them to accept the U.S. administration's schemes of aggression as a fait accompli.''

Did you notice that there is nothing from "the other side" here? Then again, it is the anti-American AP. They, Reuters and The New York Times go hand in hand.

I'm not one to defend those news sources, especially since I wholeheartedly agree with you about their bias. But to be completely fair (and you couldn't tell this from the story), this was a breaking news story from the AP based on what Iraq had stated at the UN only moments before.

At the time I posted this, AP hadn't had the time to put this into context or get a White House reaction.

hmmm...something probably got lost in the translation...they probably meant to say they have free nuclear weapons to anyone who would attack the US.
