HAPPY CHANUKAH FROM PRESIDENT BUSH!
White House

Posted on 11/27/2002 5:53:11 PM PST by Cinnamon Girl

THE WHITE HOUSE

Office of the Press Secretary
For Immediate Release
November 26, 2002

Hanukkah, 2002

I am pleased to send greetings to everyone celebrating Hanukkah, the festival of lights.

For eight days and nights, Hanukkah commemorates the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem and the ancient story of Israel's courageous faith. In a victorious struggle against their oppressors, the Maccabees heroically overcame enormous odds to liberate the ancient kingdom of Israel. Hanukkah reminds us that faith can give us the strength to overcome oppression. Today, the spirit of the Maccabees continues to live and thrive among the Jewish people and in the State of Israel.

During the eight days of Hanukkah, Jews throughout the world gather with family and friends to rejoice and celebrate. Each night, they light a branch of the menorah to commemorate the miracle of the lamp that, with only enough oil for one day, burned in the ancient Temple for eight days. The festival of lights culminates on the eighth night when all the candles burn in unity, symbolizing the eternal light of the Temple and the long-standing struggle of the Jewish people against adversity.

Americans join in thanking God for our blessings and renew our commitment to the values of faith, family, and community that make us strong. The candles of Hanukkah remind us that in the face of darkness, goodness will prevail.

Laura joins me in sending our best wishes for a joyous Hanukkah.

GEORGE W. BUSH

Isn't it a joy to see a President that uplifts God instead of his penis, A President who kneels in prayer to God Almighty instead of having others kneel before him and do service to him. I cried when I read this article. May God Almighty Bless, protect, and give G.W. Bush the knowledge, wisdom, strength, perserverance, endurance, and courage to do what must done to keep our country safe, and secure and and protect our economy, freedoms and liberties!!

GOD BLESS YOU GEORGE W. BUSH, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES & THE FREE WORLD!!!

& HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL YOU FREEPERS IN THE GOOD OL'E U.S. OF A.

Hannukah is a very political holiday in the US.

Traditionalists downplay it. They note that it wasn't important in the "old Country" (or that of thier Grandparents) and has been corrupted to become a counterpart to Christmas.

Religious Nationalists (and paleo-cons) love it. It is overtly natioanlistic and anti-PC. Here we had teh Israelites expell the Hellenized Syrians with their enforced inclusive polytheism and killed a lot of Hellenizers/collaborators.

Liberals and Neo-cons seem to view this as a holiday commemorating religious liberty. Certainly the Jews as a group could pray as they liked. However, there was no such freedom for dissenting religions after the Hasmoneans took over.

Radicals also see the holiday as one of religious liberty and use it as an excuse to de-Judaise Israel and De-Christianize America.

Of course, most kids are non-political and look forward to presents, Latkes (potato pankakes), and chocolate coins.

Happy Hanukah to my fellow Jewish Freepers adn Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

Ron
(Do Latkes applesauce and sour cream work with Turkey? I see a stomach ache in my future.)

Oh. This is good.

However, I hope the President added a line or two about how, while Islam may be a "religion of peace"(sic), Judaism is a religion known for kicking (Muslim terrorist) tail.

As a military wife stationed in Germany, I visit many antique stores over here, and I never fail to see a few menorahs for sale in the stores and at various flea markets. I am always tempted to buy one and display in my home. I am not Jewish, but I feel I could light it at this time of year as a memorial to those who may have been denied the chance. Any thoughts, comments?

And thank you President Bush for going against your word and appointing 5 pro-abortion Judges in New Jersey.

It is certainly a nice thought. I'm not sure that such a personal memorial would be either advised or safe. As with the Mezzuzah, a Hanukia or any other Menorah in ones window is a sign that one is Jewish. Germany increasingly is becoming unsafe for its few reamiang Jews due to Muslim violence.
A community lighting at a local synagogue would go a lot futher. I'm sure that there are Jews at the base and in the local community. You may want to talk to the Chaplain.

I'd seen GI Joe "Soldiers of the World" in stores, and in the Christmas catalogues. I haven't seen the one in above post, but I'm glad it's available for Israeli boys to play with, or for anyone who collects them. I've also seen the historical ones. One of them is G.Washington, another I think, is Robert E. Lee, also, Eisenhower, or MacArthur. I can't remember all those that are available.

No, it was so-called, pro-life president George W. Bush who appointed 5 abortionists to the federal bench in NJ. Yes, the guy who found Jesus and ran as a pro-life candidate for president.

Well gosh! I wonder how that happened; when most of his pro-life, conservative judges haven't even been confirmed yet? Could you tell me? Could it be these judges are strict constructionists; who just might be the type to uphold the law, and not legislate from the bench? Just where is your proof that they are 'left-leaning' and pro-abortion? Most of his pro-life judges haven't been confirmed yet, I wonder why?
