Leading Sunni and Other Sheikhs Herald the Coming Conquest of Rome (We Will Control the Vatican)
MEMRI ^ | 12-06-02

In articles written by Islamic clerics, the clerics herald the imminent conquest of Rome by Islam, in accordance with the prophecy of Muhammad. The issue is also discussed in Friday sermons. Sheikh Yousef Al-Qaradhawi, one of the most influential clerics in Sunni Islam, often makes this claim in his religious rulings and on his television programs. The following are remarks made by Al-Qaradhawi and other Muslim clerics:

-Qaradhawi: "Islam will Return to Europe as a Conqueror"

In a fatwa posted on the website www.islamonline.net,(1) in response to a reader's question, Sheikh Al-Qaradhawi wrote of the "signs of the victory of Islam," citing a well-known Hadith: "... The Prophet Muhammad was asked: 'What city will be conquered first, Constantinople or Romiyya?' He answered: 'The city of Heracles will be conquered first' – that is, Constantinople... Romiyya is the city called today 'Rome,' the capital of Italy. The city of Heracles [later to become Constantinople] was conquered by the young 23-year-old Ottoman Muhammad bin Morad, known in history as Muhammad the Conqueror, in 1453. The other city, Romiyya, remains, and we hope and believe [that it too will be conquered]."

"This means that Islam will return to Europe as a conqueror and victor, after being expelled from it twice – once from the South, from Andalusia, and a second time from the East, when it knocked several times on the door of Athens."

Sheikh Al-Qaradhawi qualified his statement: "I maintain that the conquest this time will not be by the sword but by preaching and ideology..."(2)

Al-Qaradhawi made similar statements on other occasions, on his weekly religious program on Al-Jazeera. He declared: "This means that the friends of the Prophet heard that two cities would be conquered by Islam, Romiyya and Constantinople, and the Prophet said that 'Herkal [later to become Constantinople] would be conquered first.' Romiyya is Rome, the capital of Italy, and Constantinople was the capital of the state of Byzantine Rome, which today is Istanbul. He said that Herkal, which was later Constantinople, would be conquered first and this is what happened..."

"All right, Constantinople was conquered, and the second part of the prophecy remains, that is, the conquest of Romiyya. This means that Islam will return to Europe. Islam entered Europe twice and left it... Perhaps the next conquest, Allah willing, will be by means of preaching and ideology. The conquest need not necessarily be by the sword... [The conquest of Mecca] was not by the sword or by war, but by a [Hudabiyya] treaty, and by peace... Perhaps we will conquer these lands without armies. We want an army of preachers and teachers who will present Islam in all languages and in all dialects..."(3)

Another time, Sheikh Al-Qaradhawi said, "The Hadith says that the city of Constantinople, the city of Heracles, will be conquered first. We conquered Constantinople and the second part of the prophecy remains – the conquest of Romiyya. The conquest of Romiyya means that Islam will return to Europe. In one of my previous programs, I said that I think that this conquest would not be by the sword or armies, but by preaching and ideology. Europe will see that it suffers from materialistic culture, and will seek an alternative, it will seek a way out, it will seek a lifeboat. It will find no lifesaver but the message of Islam the message of the muezzin who gives it religion but does not deny it this world, brings it to Heaven, but does not uproot it from Earth. Allah willing, Islam will return to Europe and the Europeans will convert to Islam. Then they themselves will be able to be the ones to disseminate Islam in the world, more than we ancient Muslims. This is within Allah's capabilities."(4)

Saudi Sheikh: "We Will Control the Land of the Vatican"

The Saudi Sheikh Muhammad bin Abd Al-Rahman Al-'Arifi, imam of the mosque of King Fahd Defense Academy,(5) discussed this Hadith in an article posted on the Kalemat website. Under the headline "Don't be sad, Allah is with us," the article read: "... We will control the land of the Vatican; we will control Rome and introduce Islam in it. Yes, the Christians, who carve crosses on the breasts of the Muslims in Kosovo – and before then in Bosnia, and before then in many places in the world – will yet pay us the Jiziya [poll tax paid by non-Muslims under Muslim rule], in humiliation, or they will convert to Islam..."(6)

In a sermon at the Al-Nour Mosque in Khobar, Sheikh Naser Muhammad Al-Naser quoted the sage Al-Albani, who said: "The first conquest was carried out, as is known, by Muhammad the Ottoman conqueror, 800 years after the Prophet told of it, and the second conquest [that of Rome] will be carried out, Allah willing, and it is inevitable..."(7)

In another sermon, Sheikh Al-Naser said: "This Hadith predicts that the two cities will be conquered. The first was already conquered, remained under the control of the Muslims for a time, and then was again stolen [by Ataturk]. There are signs that it will again be conquered and will return to the hands of the Islamic state. Rome also will be conquered..."(8)

PA Deputy Minister: When Islam Reaches Its End, the Sun and Stars will Extinguish

In a sermon at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Palestinian Authority's Deputy Minister of Awqaf, Sheikh Yousef Juma'a Salameh said: "Romiyya is Rome, the capital of Italy, and Constantinople is today Istanbul, known in Islamic history by the name of Islam-Boul... The great conquest [of Constantinople] was carried out two centuries after the Tatars entered Baghdad and after the fall of the Caliphate. The people thought that Islam had reached its lowest point... and forgot that Islam had not reached its end in the world, because on the day it reaches its end, there will be no world: the sun will be extinguished, the stars will go out..."(9)

Sudanese Sheikh: "Rome Will be Conquered"

In a sermon at a mosque in Khartoum, Sudan, Sheikh Muhammad Abd Al-Karim said: "...The Prophet said that the Muslims would take India, saying: 'Allah saved two groups of my nation from the fire of Hell: one group that would attack India and a second group that would be with Jesus the son of Mary [in the battle of Judgment Day].' The Prophet Muhammad told us of the conquest of Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantine state, and of the conquest of Rome, where the Vatican is situated... Some of what the Prophet said has already come to pass. The Muslims conquered Persia, the Muslims conquered Byzantium... the Muslims attacked India and Allah conquered it for us, until they reached the borders of China. The Muslims conquered Constantinople, where Eastern Christianity is situated, and in the future, a mighty king will arise for the Muslims; through him, Islam will spread and Rome will be conquered..."(10)

I hope to God we'll fight before it's too late. More people I know are becoming more and more convinced that Islam is truly a barbaric, evil religion.

One or two more 9/11-level attacks and the citizens of many countries will probably form vigilante groups and take the law into their own hands. Thankfully I live in an area almost completely devoid of Muslims, so I don't ever have to worry about half my town being burned to the ground in the process.

Well, I have one thought:

These monsters would rape, mutilate, and make sexual slaves of every Christian girl they could get their hands on. They would enslave every Christian boy they could get their hands on. They would use every trick in the book to lead these children away from Christ and into their false religion.

Our Lord had some things to say about caring for little children and not letting them be harmed or misled by evildoers.

I don't think that I can find Biblical warrant for going out of my way to harm Muslim children, women, or even men who are just quietly going about their daily lives. But I do think that there is good Biblical warrant for standing up, and even putting our lives on the line, against those Muslims who are actively engaged in their jihad against us. It isn't an issue of me turning the other cheek because my cheek is being struck, but rather of not looking the other way while my brother or sister or child in Christ is being struck.

By 2045, Austria and France will be majority Moslem.

By 2045, there will be no Islam - or 80% of the world's population will be gone.

Are we serious?

Watching Bush on TV tell the world how the Muslims are such peace loving people, I would say it is a lost cause.

People STILL dont get it.

The only way barbaric muslim primitives are returning to Europe are as busboys, gardeners, and toilet cleaners.

That's how it starts. It's a very good beginning for them. It's a foot in the door. Don't you see that?

You know, we in the western world have been sleepwalking.

Very true. I don't know how it's going to end (well, I don't know the specifics, but I trust that it will end as the Bible and the Church teach), but I think we've been living in a fool's paradise. Our ignorance of history has led us to forget that as recently as the 19th and early 20th century, Islam was attacking various parts of southern Europe and the Mediterranean.

As for Islamic proseltysing, yes, of course, they have the right to preach and attempt to sway people to their beliefs. But that's not the way Islam works; it began with forced conversions, and it has extended itself with forced conversions, and it does not look as if its historical pattern is about to change.

It's Islam stupid.™

There is only ONE true religion, Christianity. We will conquer Islam and destory it.

Congratulations -- you've just put yourself on the same footing as the people you condemn. I suppose you're going after all the Hindus, Jews, and Buddhists at some point too. Any other parts of the Constitution you care to ignore?

Do they really? Have you tried being a Christian in Sudan, Pakistan , or Indonesia lately? They're being murdered by Muslims. How about applying for a missionary job of any faith but the Wahibbi version of Islam in Saudi Arabia? Hint, they don't let them in and Sudanese Christians are enslaved by Muslim nothern Sudanese. Try a little reading.

But we still advocate that those missionaries be given that right, and Christian missionaries do operate in relative peace in many other parts of the world. It's how the religion spread in the first place. But you're apparently claiming that peaceful prosletyzing should be limited to Christianity alone.

This particular islamic cleric is advocating the peaceful conversion of Europe. I see nothing immoral or alarming in that.

Don't mistake Mohammadenism for Christianity.

In the article "this particular cleric" states that, "[Christians] will yet pay us the Jiziya [poll tax paid by non-Muslims under Muslim rule], in humiliation, or they will convert to Islam..."

This is straight out of the Koran:

Surah 9:29

"Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.

From the Catholic Encyclopedia entry under Mohammed and Mohammedanism:

In matters political Islam is a system of despotism at home and aggression abroad. The Prophet commanded absolute submission to the imâm. In no case was the sword to be raised against him. The rights of non-Moslem subjects are of the vaguest and most limited kind, and a religious war is a sacred duty whenever there is a chance of success against the "Infidel". Medieval and modern Mohammedan, especially Turkish, persecutions of both Jews and Christians are perhaps the best illustration of this fanatical religious and political spirit.

"Whoever, therefore, shall determine upon this holy pilgrimage, and shall make his vow to God to that effect, and shall offer himself to him for sacrifice, as a living victim, holy and acceptable to God, shall wear the sign of the cross of the Lord on his forehead or on his breast.

The Catholic Church has been bashed for centuries regarding Her role in the Crusades. It's about time the Church got some credit for them. It was the Catholic kingdoms that drove the Mohammedans out of Europe.

It's nauseating. I believe that it will take two more 9/11 equivalents to wake up our society. OBL may actually be doing us a favor.

Good point.

Perhaps the present conflict in Iraq is to be molded as an unrigheous act to unbelievers, used to rally a worldwide assault on Christianity, coincident with promoting a personal subdermal ID system to plant a mark,

those who rebel are rounded up as 'fundamentalists' and then executed with a nuke in concentration camps, producing a Rapture,

where similar to Shadrach, Mishach and Abendigo, the souls of Christians are met in the air, concurrently beginning a 7 yr period of peaceful covenant with Israel by those powers who orchestrated an antiChristian campaign,

only to have the voice of the antichrist transmitted into each body brain via the subdermal chip to commit the blasphemy of blasphemies,

a demon invasion prepared in advance by the current UFO/alien/SciFi psyops to accept even the most bizarre events as natural by those lusting for power to control the masses, and then followed by the vengeance of the Lord in a Second Coming.

The same devices could then be used to rewrite the hearts and minds with the Law ushering in a Millenium of righteous rule.

Of course datesetters are fools, so the day of trouble might not happen for another 2000 years.
